UNITED STATES PATENT 1 OFFICE,
MONDEST C. RICHARDS, 0F FLINT, MICHIGAN.
CHILDS VEHICLE.
Application filed May 18, 1923. Serial No. 639,918.
ful Improvements in Childrens Vehicles, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved child vehicle which is adapted to be propelled by the feet, the geiieral object of the invention being to so construct the vehicle that it can be used with. or Without a seat, in the latter case the operator would stand upon the vehicle and use one foot to pro pe], the same.
Another object of the invention is to proride means whereby the vehicle J an be steered."
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully de scribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which i p Figure 1 is a side view of the device.
Figure 2 is a front view thereof.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig- Figure l is a section on' line 4- lof Figure 2.
Figure Bisa side elevation of the vehicle when used without a seat.
In these views 1. indicates the base which has wheels 2 at its rear and 3- indicates the steering post which is connected by a hinge t with the front end of the base. The
hinge is secured to the base bya bolt 5. A Wheel 6 is carried at the lower end of the steering post and a handle 7 arranged at its upper end. A seat 9 is detachably c0nnected to the base by means of the spring strap 10 which is fastened to the seat having its, bent ends engaging the brackets 11 on the base. By pulling one of the depending parts of the strap inwardly it may be released from its bracket and the seat then removed from the base.
hen the seat is not being used the child or operator will stand with one foot on the base and use his other foot to propel him self along, the steering post acting as guiding means for the device. Of courseif the device is running down-hill both feet would be placed on the base. hen the seat is used the operator could use both feet to propel the device; I 1
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features oi my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several. parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
hat I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising a base, wheels at the rear end thereof, a steering post, a vertically arranged hinge connected with the post and pivoted to the front end of the base, a wheel at the lower end of the post, a handle at the upper end thereof, a seat: a spring member or sup porting the same and clips on the base for receivingthe extremities of the supporting member. I k i In testimony whereof I afi'ixmy signature.
