AUTOMATIG HUG-CEILING DEVICE.`

Be it `known that URLANDO A. LEMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, `in the county of York and State of l Nebraska, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Hog-Oiling VDe'vices, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to an automatic hog `oiling device and has for its principal object to provide a simple and eiiicient means `for automatically spraying the hog with any insecticide or disinfectant as the hog passes through the device. l
A further obl'ect of the invention is to which is adapted to be located within an opening `either in a fence or a door and through which a-hogfis adapted to pass and whereby the passing 0f the hog therethrough will cause the insecticide to be applied autoinatically on the hog.

n ates generally a. frame which is substantially rectangular in design and is adapted to support on the top thereof the reservoir 2 which may bey constructed of any suitable metallicmaterial and in which is adapted to be contained the liquid disinfectant or insecti-cide. lThis Areservoir is so supported on the upper part of the frame l as to extend longitudinally over a pairof spaced beams 3 and il, respectively, as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawing. The purpose of .this arrangement is" to provide a means for enabling the casing 5 which is substantially` I circular in cross section asiclearly shown in Fig. 4r of the drawing, and which is furthermore secured to the bottom face `of the reservoir to extend between the spaced beams.,
As is clearly shown in Figure l ofthe drawing the cylinder 5 is arranged substantially in the central portion of the bottom of the reservoir and is provided in its upper face with an opening or aperture G, the lattercommunicating `with a similar aperture 7 provided in the bottom` of the reservoir,` the purpose of which will hereinafter be more yfully described. This casing is open at its respective ends, as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, and adapted for slidable movement therein is the Vcylinder 8, the latter being closed at 'its respective ends, as shown at 9 and 1Q,respectively, in Figure 3` of the drawings andisalso of a length slightly less than the length of the casing.
The cylinder 8 isalso provided in its upper portion with an aperture or opening 11 and normally this aperture il is adapted to yregister with they registering apertures 6 and 7, provided in the casing 5 and the reservoir 2, respectively, as heretofore i clearly described. y
The cylinder S is furthermore provided with an opening 12 which `is 'arranged at, a point diametrically opposite the opening l1 and which is normally out of registry with the opening 13 provided in the bottom of the casing 5, the latter opening being arranged substantially adjacent one end of the casing.
' For the purpose of normally holding the cylinder 8 within the casing' 5 in such a position as to enable the cylinder to beiilled by the action of gravity with the liquid disinfectant contained within the reservoir 2, whereby a ,charge of a predetermined amount is discharged into the cylinder, a suitable coil 0 suoli as is shown at 14 in the drawspring ings is connected at its inner endto the end wall of the cylinder, in any suitable manner. and at its outer end to suitable fastening' means extending transversely across the outer ends of the longitudinally extending beams 3 and el. lt is also to be understood that this spring 1+i is located between -the spaced longitudinal beams '3 and et, so as to permit the proper functioning` of the same, and as is heretofore stated, the beams are so spaced with relation to one another as to permit the casing 5 to fit snue'ly therebetween, thus permitting the free Longitudinal movement of the cylinder S when the same is actuated by means hereinafter more fully ldescribed'.
Pivotal'ly supported between the opposite ends of the longitudinal beams 3 and el. and arranged Ain the space formed therebetween is the bell `rcrank lever 15. Connected to the shorter arm thereof is the lever 16 which has its inner end threaded into the end wall y 10 of the cylinder 8 in the manner as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawing. l his bell crank lever 15 may be supported on the transversely extending pin 17' in an y desired manner and connected to the longer arm of the bell crank lever at its upper end is the elongated arm 1S. This arm vis also adapted to extend longitudinally in the slotted portion 19 of one of the side beams 20 of the frame 1, and adapted tolbe connected at its lower end byrmeans of a link 21 to a platform or treadle 22, which is sulpl'no'rted on `the bottom 23 of the frame l by having the inner end thereof provided with an aperture for the purpose 'of receiving the u'pstand'ing' bolt 24 which is supported by the base or bottom 23 of the frame, 'and the aperture may be in the form of an elongated slot so as to permit the vertical movement of the platform on the b'olt as will be presently described.
Normally the oute'r end of the platform 2&2 extends upwardly at an angle with respect to lthe inner end as clearly shown in Figure 1 ofthe drawings, and the spring 14 normally holds the cylinder 8 within the casing 5, in such a manner as to prevent the charge 'of disinfectant contained in the cylinder, the latter being fed to the cylinder by the action of gravity, as heretofore described, and thus preventing the accidental loss lor dispensing of the disinfectant when the device is not in use. In certain seasons of the year it becomes necessary to treat hogs with fa disinfectant whereby the vermin may be externiinated, thus preventing any injury or discomfort to lthe hogs. By placing the device within an opening provided `either in a fence or a door and through which the hogs must pass either in leaving or entering the hog pen, the device is rein dered operative and positive in its action so that upon a hog' passing through the frame, it will step upon the platform Q2 automatically depressing the same and'consequently causing the arm 18 to be lowered which will result in the forward movement of the cylinder S within the casing 5 against the tension of the coil spring' lll so as to cause the opening 12 provided in the bottom of the cylinder to be brought into registry with the opening 13 provided in the bottom of the casing' 5.
This forward movement of the cylinder will simultaneously cause the opening or algiert'ure 1l provided in the top of the cylinder to be brought out of registry with the apertures G and 7, thus shutting off the further supply of disinfectant to the cylinder and permitting the charge contained within the cylinder to be dispensed through the registering' apertures l2 and 13 by the action of gravity, whereby the disinfectant is sprayed onto portions of the body of the hog. After the hog has stepped olf of the platform 22 the spring 14k will automatically return the cylinder S to its normal position within the casing 5, whereby the discharge apertures 12 and 13 are moved to an inoperativc and non-registering position, and again permitting the aperture 11 to register with the apertures 6 and 7 whereby a further charge of disinfectant may be admitted from the reservoir to the cylinder, thus setting the device in position for use by the next hog to pass through the frame.
It will thus be seen from the foregoing' de-l scription` that 'a hog oiling' device has been provided which is very simple in construction, entirely automatic in its operation, and 'one which is furthermore positive in its action and limiting the amount of disinfectant which is vsprayedon the hog, thus preventing any waste and assuring' an equal discharge of a certain -amount of the disinfectant upon each hog.
It is to be further understood that this invention is not alone limited in its use for the treatment of hogs, as any other stock such as fowls, or the like, may also efficiently use the device and control the operation thereof.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while I have particularly described the elements best yadapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changesin form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, without filled with the disinfectantcontained in said reservoir by the action of gravity, means for holding said cylinder in its normal position, and means for discharging the contents of said cylinder bythe weight of stock passing `through said frame, and including an animal actuated platform pivoted to the lower end of the frame, a bell crank lever pivoted tothe upper end of the frame, a rod connected with the bell crank lever and the free end of the platform, and an operative connection between the cylinder and bell` crank lever.
2. A stock disinfecting device comprising a frame, a reservoir mounted thereon, a casing associated with the bottom of said reservoir, the casing having an opening in the upper portion `thereof communicating with an opening providedin the bottom of said reservoir, a cylinder supported in said casing and adapted for slidable movement therein, said cylinder having an opening in `the upper portion thereof communicating with said mentioned openings, whereby the cylinder may be filled with the liquid disinfectant contained in said reservoir by the action of gravity, means for normally holding said cylinder in its filling position, said cylinder having a discharge opening in the bottom thereof adapted to register with a discharge opening provided in the bottom of said casing upon the forward movement of said cylinder in said casing, `means in said frame and connected with said cylinder for moving the same into' an operative position upon the passing of stock through said frame, whereby the charge within said cylinder is dispensed through said discharge openings-onto said stock by the action of gravity.
3. A stock disinfecting device comprising a frame, a reservoir mounted thereon, a casing carried by the bottom of said reservoir, and having an opening in the top thereof communicating with an opening provided in the bottom of said reservoir, a cylinder slidably supported in said casing and having an opening in the top thereof communicating with `said mentioned openings, in its normal position, whereby said cylinder is filled with a disinfectant contained in said reservoir by the action of gravity,sai d cylinder and casing having discharge openings in the bottom thereof, a platform mounted in the bottom of said frame, means connecting said platform to said cylinder whereby the latter is actuated upon the weight of stock stepping on said platform, so that said discharge openings register with one another to cause the charge of disinfect-ant containedl within said cylinder to be discharged upon said stock by the action of gravity, and means for returning said cylinder to its normal position ,upon said stock stepping off of said platform.
