BAG TIE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JoHAN Fnnnniok IVIALM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bag Ties, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to bag ties and more specifically to bag ties for individual tea bags such as are commonly used in restaurants for making individual cups or pots of tea.

()ne of the objects of my invention is to provide an improved tie which can be made cheaply and which will be durable and efficient.

Further objects will appear from the description and claims.

In the drawings in which my invention is illustrated Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tea bag provided with my improved tie;

Fig. 2 is a View from the right of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a sectional View showing the first step in the method of tying, the section being through the neck of the bag;

Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing the next step;

Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing the cord or tie practically completed; and,

liig. (i is a vie-w showing a needle which may be used in making the tie.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the bag tic shown therein is forn'ied by gathering the fabric of the bag 10 to form a neck as indicated at 11, passing a loop of the cord through the gathers at the neck as indicated at A in Fig. 3, forming a loop large enough to be drawn back and slipped over the ends of the gathers as indicated at B, and C, in Figs. 4: and 5, and drawing the loop up tightly about the neck to complete the tie.

In order to securely hold the tie the loop may be slipped down so as to overlie the loose ends of the cords slightly.

As shown in Figs. 8 and d, the loop of the cord extends through the infolded portions of a number of gathers, which assists in holding the neck of the bag closed.

It will be seen that I have thus provided a bag tie which can be cheaply made and which will not easily become untied or loosened.

Having thus described my invention what I now claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the U. S. is:

1. A method of tying a bag comprising gathering the material of the bag to form a neck, passing a loop of cord through a sin gle passage through the material of the bag at the neck, placing the loop over the ends of the gathers and around the neck and drawing the loop up snugly about the neck.

2. A tied bag comprising a bag of open meshed fabric having a portion gathered to form a neck and a tie comprising a cord having a loop passed through a single opening through the middle of the bag at the neck and looped around and drawn up snugly about the neck, a portion of the loop overlying a portion of the cord which has not been passed through said passage.

3. A tied bag comprising a bag having a portion gathered to form a neck, and a tie comprising a cord having a loop passed through a single opening through the material of the bag at the neck and looped around and drawn up snugly about the neck, said loop extending through the infolded portion of a number of said gathers.
