A still further object of the invention is to provide a stamp afiixing device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated. j

In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustratirm is shown the preferred em sediment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally the lcasing of my improved stamp affixing device and the same coniprises the side walls 2 and 3 respectively, the top 4, the bottom 5 and the front and rear end sections 6 and 7 respectively. The lower portion of the front end section 6. of the casing is cutaway and supported in the cut away portion is the table 8 the purpose of which is to provide a means for receiijiing and supporting an envelope or card upon which a stamp is tofbe al'lixed. Rotatably supported on the shaft 9 inthe rear portion` of the casing is the roll of stamps 10. the same being a continuous strip of single stamps which are connected together by perforations in the manner well known in the art. For the purpose of enabling the .insertion of another roll of stamps within the casing, one of the side walls of the casing is provided with a hinged door such is illustrated at 11.
Supported between the side walls 2 and 3 respectively and arranged adj aeent the forward end section 6 and the base 5 is the substantially L-shaped plate 12. The upstanding portion thereof is spaced from the lower portion of the forward end section 6 whereby a guide means is provided for the reciprocatory movement of the plunger, the
construction of which will hereinafter be more fully described. The base portion of the L-shaped member 12 is spaced from the bottom 5 of the casing and is disposed above `the fountain.` or reservoir 13 and the lower portion of the moistening pad supporting frame in the manner clearly illustrated in Cil Cil
roller under which the strip of stamps is adapted to pass. The roller 15 has its ends journaled in the side walls of the casing in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing. Adapted for reciprocatory movement in the forward portion ofthe casing 1 and disposed vertically above the` fountain or reservoir 13 is the substantially U-shaped frame designated generally by the numeral 1G. rlhe base portion 17 of the ll-shaped frame 16 supports thereon the absorbing pad 18 and the latter is provided with downwardly extending portions 19 in the manners clearly illustrated in Figure 7 of the drawings. The downwardly extend-- ing portions 1S) of the absorbing pad 1S are adapted to extend through suitable openings provided in the base portion of the U-shaped frame and entend into the liquid contained within the fountain or' reservoir 13 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 1. The liquid within the reservoir may be either water or a thin mucilage and it may be readily seen that by capillary action the pad 1S will be absorbed with the liquid through the medium of the depending portions 1) so that the gunnned faces of the stamp will be moistened and the same passed over the fountain when the frame is raised in the manner hereinafter to be more fully described.
Extending vertically in' the forward end of the casing 1 and adapted for reciprocal movement therein is the manually operated plunger 20. The lower end of the plunger 2O is provided with a presser foot 21 and the latt-r is adaptedr to operate between the forward end section 6 and the iilpstand'infg portion of the L-shaped member 12 in the manner as is obvious from-the construction as illustrated in Figure 1. The lower Jortion of the plunger is adapted to pass through a suitable opening 22 provided' inthe plate 23 which entends between the upper portion of the l.-shaped member 12 and the forward end section G and to further prevent the rotary novement of the plunger, the strip 2-flis secured on the pla-te 23 and the same engages one of the side faces of the plunger. The plunger is' preferably rectangular in cross section as is clearly illustrated in ure 2. rlhe upper portion of the plunger extends through lthe top` d of the casing 1 and a suitable handle 25 is provided thereon for operating the same.
Rack teeth 26 are provided on one of the side faces of the plunger and the same are adapted to operate a train of gearing for the purpose of operating the feeding' means The train of gearing comprises the segmental gear 28 which is adapted to mesh with the rack teeth 26, the shaft for supporting the segmental gear 28 being illustrated at 29. rlhe segmental gear meshes with gear wheels 30 mounted on the shaft 31, the latter being in vertical alignment with the shaft 29 and extending between the side walls 2 and 3 of the casing 1 in the manner clearly illustrated in ligure 3. A gear wheel 32 is also supported on the shaft 31 and is adapted to drive the gear wheel 33 mounted on the shaft 2d also supported in vertical alignn'ient with the aforementioned shaft and being disposed below the same. rlhe gear wheel is adapted to drive the gear wheel 35 supported on the shaft 36 and on which are mounted the spaced feeding rollers 27.

lt will be seen troni the oii'egoimg description, that a stamp allixing; device has been provided which is very simple in con- .structioin` inexpensive, strong' and durable and the parts 'further so arranged as to enable the same to be readily accessible at all times. Furthermore a stamp allixing di- `vice ol: the character above described will be positive and eilicient in its operation and will save considerable time in alliting 'stamps to envelopes, cards, or the lilre. lllhile l have shown' the preferred embodinient ot my invention, it is to be un lil derstood that various changes in the site. shape and, arrangement ot parts may be resorted to 'without departing; from the spirit of the invention and the scope ot the appended claims.

A stamp allining device comprising,` a casino' an envelope receiving,` table, a vcr- `tically disposed spring controlled plunger arranged over said table, stamp 'feeding means, a train oit gearing connected to the stamp feeding` me i and o1 erable by said plunger, a fountain below said feeding` means and adjacent said table, a inoistener normally within said fountain, and n'ieans tor raising the moistener into engagement with aV stamp 'over the tountain upon the donxward n'iovement or" the plunger, said means comprising substantially tlshaped frame adapted to support said moistener in the base portion ther-coli, a lever pivotally supported in said casing and connecter" at one end to the upper portion ot the trame, and a trip carried by said plunger for actuating the opposite end oit the lever whereby the trame and moistener are simultaneouslji' raised upon the down strolte ott the plunger.

A stamp allixinp; device comprising;` a casing, an envelope receiving table, a vertically disposed spring controlled plunger arranged over said table, stamp Yfeeding` means, train of gearing1 connected to the stamp feeding means and operable by said plunger, a fountain below said feeding means and adjacent said table, a moistener normally within said fountain, means for raising the moistener into engagement with ast-amp over the fountain upon the downward movement ot the plunger, said means comprising,` a substantially U-shaped trame adapted to support said moistener in the base portion thereof, a lever pivotally supported in said casing' and connected at one end to the upper portion of the frame, a trip carried by said plunger tor actuating the opposite end oli the lever whereby the traine and moistener are simultaneously raised upon the down stroke ofthe plunger, and means for returning,` the plunge and fra-me carrying` the moistener to their normal positions.

A stamp 'afdeling device comprising a casing, an envelope receiving table, a ver tically disposed plunger adapted tor reciprocatory movement in the casing` and arranged above the table, racl; teeth provided on the plunger, stamp lieeeding means, a 'train ol gearing connected to the feeding,- means and operable by the rack teeth on said plunger, a reservoir, a moistener normally disposed thereiina carrier for said moistener, guide means for said carrier, and` means. associated with said plunger and said carrier ior raising,` the `latter simultane- Uil ousl)T upon the down stroke ot the plunger to move the moistener into engagement with a stamp disposed over the reservoir.
