Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Moses FRENCH, oF HAEEoDsBUEe, 1NDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOLTING-REELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,558, dated July 28, 1874; application filed May 16, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, MosEs FRENCH, of Harrodsburg, in the county of Monroe and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Bolting-Reel, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim. A
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of a reel constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a crossseetion, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail in cross-section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The shaft A consists of a round rod of iron, and has three hubs, B, C, and D, of cast-iron, fitted on it and fastened by set-screws. The arms h are small rods cast into hubs B and C. The latter hub is capable of sliding along the shaft, and is connected byadjusting-bolts E with a flange, F, of hub D, to stretch the cloth G lengthwise, for tightening it by drawing the head H along the shaft a little. The cloth has strips I arranged along' the seams to attach it to the rods J, which are suspended from the ribs L by rods K. The cloth strips are connected to the rods by hooks, and the rods are arranged to turn and roll the cloth on them for stretching it transversely. M is the short section at the upper end of the reel, for receiving the meal from the spout. It is connected to head N and double head O, to be taken oli independently of the other part G. The part G is attached to the double head 0 by being clamped between the two rings of which it is made, and it is attached to head H by a thin plate, Which clamps it to the head.
By this arrangement the cloth can be stretched tightat any time after it has stretched so as to bag Without unfastening and readjusting it. The inside is relieved of the ribs of wood which carry up the meal and throw it down, so as to force through the brown and dark matters which discolor the flour, and the bolting-cloth, being entirely untouched by the ribs, will not cutnor be injured by insects which gather in the cracks, as in the common reels.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The rolling rods J, suspended from the ribs L by rods K, all combined and arranged with the bolting-cloth, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
MOSES FRENCH. Witnesses:
