J. c. FoRsTER PIE CRIMPER Filed Jan. 10, 1925' FIELl.
// M/VEAWWR Q Mug/M m I WIT/b55386 iatented Apr. 2S, 1925 STATES JOHN C. EORSTER, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
PIE GRIMPER.
Application filed January 10, 1925. Serial No. 1,599.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN C. Fonsrnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and the State of Pennsylvania, have made a new and useful Invention in Pie Crimpers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to household tools and more particularly to pie trimmers and crimpers such as are used to trim and crimp the edge of a crust of pie before baking.
An object of this invention is to provide a pie crimper which can be conveniently made entirely of sheet metal.
A further object is to provide a device of the type set forth, the parts of which are formed of sheet metal stampings and which is therefore simple and cheap to manufacture and at the same time rugged and durable in construction.
These and other objects are accomplished by means of this inventionwhich is illustratcd in the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a View in elevation of a pie crimper constructed in accordance with the present in ventio n. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is an exploded view of the parts showing their relationship to one another and indicating the manner of assembling them.
As illustrated the invention includes a supporting handle or shank 5 on which the pie crimping elements are rotatably mounted by means of an elongated rivet 6 having a collar 7 adjacent the shank.
A trimming disc 8 is dished so as to form a shoulder 9 and is provided with perforations 10 spaced around the outer edge of the dished portion just within the shoulder 9. An annular hollow sheet metal crimping wheel 11 having crmiping corrugations 12 around its periphery is provided with cars 13 which are spaced around its inner edge distance correspond ng to the distance between the perforations 10 of the trimming disc 8 and by means of which the crimping wheel is secured to the trimming disc, the edge of the crimping wheel seating with n the dished portion of the disc adjacent to the inner face of the shoulder 9.
A finishing and spacing plate 14: is provided with a peripheral flange 15 which snugly engages the outer face of the shoulder 9 of the trimming disc so as to cover the securing ears 13 and prevent their acc'dental disengagement from the trimming disc. The finishing plate is provided with a. central annular boss 16 which cooperates with the collar '4' formed on the elongated rivet to space the trimming dsc and crimping wheel from the supporting shank. When the elements are assembled the end of the rivet which extends through perforations termed in the centers of the finishing plate, trimming disc and crimping wheel is headed over against the outer face of the crimping wheel.
The invention provides a tool which is simple and cheap to manufacture because of the fact that the parts are made from the sheet metal stampings, and the elements are so assembled as to provide a rugged and durable construction.
What I claim is:
1. A sheet metal pie crimpcr having in combination a supporting shank, av trimming disc member, a crimping wheel 113E111. her, one of said members having perforations formed therein and the other of said members provided with ears extending through said perforations and secured thereto and means for rotatably mounting said members on said shank.
2. A sheet metal pie crimper having in combination, a supporting shank, aper-torated trimming disc, a crimping wheel having ears extending through the perforations of said disc and secured thereto and means for rotatably mounting said disc and wheel on said shank.
3. A sheet metal pie crimper having in combination, a supporting shank, periorated sheet metal trimming disc, an annular hollow sheet metal crimping wheel having ears extending through the perforations of said disc and secured thereto, a finishing plate adapted to be secured to the opposite side of said disc over said ears and means for rotatably mounting the assembled members on said shank in spaced relation thereto.
4i. A sheet metal pie crimper having in combination, a supporting shank, a perforated trimming d sc, dished so as to provide a circular shoulder, an annular sheet metal crimping wheel having ears extending through the perforations of said disc and secured thereto, said crimping Wheel seating within the dished portion of said disc, a finishing plate adapted to fit over said shoulder so as to cover said ears and means for rotatably mounting the assembled members on said shank in spaced relation thereto.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 5th day of January,
JOHN C. FOR-STICK.
