- TEST MOLD.

To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, F RED RonLnn, a c1t1- zen of the United States, and a resident of Oincinnathin thecounty of Hamilton and State of Ohio,.have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Test Molds, of whichthe following is a. full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this'specification. i
My invention relates to devices for use in the testing of plastics, particularly in the testing of concrete.
It has become the practice of construction engineers to require samples toloe furnished for test of each batch of concrete used in structural Work.
The requirements are for the forming of a solidified cylindrical block of concrete or asphalt having given dimensions, which should be regular in shape, without fins and of an accurate size.
.It is the object of my invention to provide a device which will be suitable for the formation of such a test block of concrete, which device is portable, entirely collapsible to permit of taking out the solidified block Without breakage, and which the contractor can use, by pouring his concrete into the device, and having a workman carry it to the testing point, during which time the concrete will begin its solidification, and
where the,- mo-ld can be taken to pieces without danger of cracking or breaklng the block.
The mold can be open at the top, but otherwise must have its bottom as well as its sides, free for independent removal from mutual position.
I accomplish my object by that certain construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter morespecifically pointed out and claimed.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the handle thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the base of the device.
The cylindrical mold is formed of two half sections 1 and 2, having an internal diameter, when placed together which is re quired for a test block. The sections have top flanges 3 and 4, and bottom flanges 5 and 6.
Slotted lugs 7 are formed preferably two on the two side edges of each section.
. Bolts 8 are mounted pivotally by means of pins 9 set vertically through the lugs on one of the sections, the slots in the lugs giving clearance for the'bolts to swing, The
thumb screws 10 on the bolts thus clamp the sectionstogether by meansof placing the two sections together, swinging the bolts so that they pass through the slots in the lugs on the free section, and then turning down the thumb screws, resulting in the position of the parts shown in Figure 1.
I preferably locate centering pins 11, in the abutting side faces of one of the sections, and provide holes in the other sections for the centering pins.
()n the base flange of one of the sections is hinged a bottom plate. The bottom plate has the circular body 12, with projections 13 and let at two sides thereof. On one of the sides the hinge knuckles 15 are provided, which cooperate. with the knuckles 16 on the base flange of the one half cylinder so;- tion.
On the other projection of the base are formed two lugs 17 having slots 18 which face laterally of the base. The base flange of the section not hinged to the base, has a pair of notches 19 to clear the lugs, and pivoted on top of the said flange are a pair of latches 20. These latches have cam ends 21, which when the latches are swung back against the wall of the section will engage in the slots 18 in the two lugs, thereby holding the base tightly up against the base flange of the sections.
lVith the device constructed as now described, it will be apparent, that with the mold fully set up the contractor can pour his concrete or cement or what not, into the mold. A pair of notches 22 in the two top flanges of the mold sections, serve to receive the arms 23 of a carrying bail 9A. The arms can be sprung to come into the notches, and will have enlarged ends to prevent them from pulling througln The workman can. then transport the mold, with the solidifying or solidified block within it to the testing point, where the engineer will release the thumb screws, and throw open the swing bolts, and will then move the latches 20 so as to release the base. The unhinged section can then be lifted away, and the base swung down out of supporting relation with the block of sotion and Will now state the novelty inherent therein, in the claims that follow.
Having thus described my invention,'what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y l. A. test mold comprising a base, a pair of side sections, means for hinging one of the sections to thebase, means for detachably clamping the edges of the sections to gether to form a tubular structure, and means for clamping the other section to the base, for the purpose described.
2. A test mold comprising a pair of semicylindrical sections, means for clamping them detachablytogether, a base having a periphery larger at selected points than the external diameter of the sections, hinge means between one of the sections and the one of said selected points on the base, and
lug and latch connection between the other section at another of the selected points on the base.
3. A test mold comprising a base, a pair of side sections, means for hinging one of the sections to the base, means for detachably clamping the edges of the sections together to form a tubular structure, and means for clamping the other section to the base, for the purpose described, and a detachable handle for engaging the upper portions of said sections.
l. A test mold comprising a base, a pair of semi-cylindrical sections having flanges engaging on said base, a hinge between one of said flanges and the base, a pair of lugs on the base, clearance in the flange of the other section for said lugs, latches on the said last named flange for engaging the lugs, and a detachable handle engaging said sections near the top thereof, as and for the purpose described.
