Description

March 17. 1925.
W. R. BITON LINEMANS PROTECTIVE GQRMENT Filed Oct. 20, 1925 F/rl. v
v I I W. R 5/ TON Patented Mar. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES WALTER ROBINSON BITON, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
LINEMANS PROTECTIVE GARMENT.
Application filed October 20, 1923.
T0 ((YZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, human RomNsoN BITON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Linemen's Protective Garments, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in linemans protective garments and the object of the invention is to devise simple means whereby the head, shoulders, upper portion of the body and arms of a lineman may be protected from electric contact when operating on high tension wires and it consists essentially of a garment body formed of sheet rubber, arms extending therefrom and a cap piece formed integral with the body and ventilating orifices arranged around the cap and body portion of the garment from which extend upwardly directed ventilating ducts as hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specification.
Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of my garment illustrated on a wearer.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective detail through the ventilating ducts.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts'in each figure.
1 indicates the body of the garment which is formed of suitable sheet rubber. The body 1 extends over the shoulders and is provided with a neck piece 2 extending upward therefrom and integral with which is formed a cap 3 provided with a peak t. 5 are the arms of the garment, the wrist portions of which are formed to grip tightly around the arms of the wearer. 6 are ventilating orifices or perforations which are preferably arranged around the bottom edge of the Serial No. 669,793.
garment body 1 as indicated at 7. each orifice being provided with an upwardly extending tubular duct 8 extending therefrom, each duct opening upward.
9 and 10 are similar ducts arranged around the bottom edge of the cap piece 3. The perforations 11 may be located beneath the arms of the wearer of the garment and if desired a line of ventilating ducts. may extend crosswise of the back of thegarment as indicated at 12. To the garment above described may be attached an ordinary pair of overalls to cover the lower portion of the wearers body.
From this description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple means which will prevent a high tension wire contacting with the body of the lineman in such a way as to be dangerous to him, the ventilating perforations such as those at 6 being covered by the tubular ducts 8 so that there is no possibility of direct contact between the wire and the linemans body.
It will be readily understood that if plain perforations instead of those covered by the ducts were used, that the moisture from the body of the wearer would tend to increase the danger and for this purpose the ducts S are provided so that the wires cannot directly contact with moistened edges of the orifices such as at 6.
W'hat I claim as myinvention is:
A linemans protective garment comprising a body portion, neck portion and arm portions formed of sheet rubber having ventilating perforations suitably arranged therein and covering means permanently attached in an immovable position, permitting the free passage of air through the perforations at all times.
W'ALTER ROBINSON BITON.
