Application'fled June 88,
Be it lniown that I, Max Bnnxowrrz, a citizen of ther United vstatgaresidi'n at Lawrence, yin the county of Nassau and tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand ,Bags, of/
' which the following is a specification.
- is aflixe to the bag.
pxteriorlyex osed. 3037 f to form` the sepfilb'atel'fla sE andi'Fan intermediate partition orms' the usual ex- This invention relates to improvements in hand bags and more particularl toj improvements in ladies hand bags o the fia't rovision of a hand ba y its owner with an of various colors.
articular object of the invention is the' which will be usable. will match costume/sf.
"Vision of a reversible hand bag in which va.- rious shades or colors of materials maybe employed and on the exterior of which the material of shade or-color desi'red, may be exposed at the will of the user..' e
Furtherobjects of the invention will be ap arent from the drawings in which ig. 1 isa perspective view of the'hand bag of my improved invention shown partlyf openedzjf V i Figfl` `s a 4perspective view of the same hand bag having a diflz'erentcolored material' Fig. 3 1s a. ongitudinalsection of the hand b in an extended open'position.
ig. 4 is a vertical section of the hand bag closed. v 1
' Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view of the clasp used in the hand bag.
Fi 6 is anenlarged horizontal' view of the as showing the manner in which Vit A represents the body of the bag shown in Fig. 3 in the fully extended position and in Figs. 1 and 2 in the partially bent position. This body A consists througlhout its length of facings of materials of `ssimilar colors on the two sides thereof. In this embodiment a facing of black silk is shownv at B in the drawin and a facing of red leatheris shown at At the ,point D the v facin'gs of the bodyfportionA are-separated ansible ockets formed by the bellows folds and H aving' side walls of the usual type. A portion of the Body-v A marked O in the. drawing (see Fig. 3) is bendable over the kets formed by saidvbellows folds H and in either direction and. is Secured in place by the cl the t 1994. serial ro. MMI.
m Vwhich has a swi'vel connection with t e bod 'of the bag so that the ornamental side o the clasp m may always be exposed to view. The clas m has a snap fastener m' which is detacha ly held in the sockets R and R' (see Figs. 3 and 4). The tabs S and S' serve for the purpose of locking the body of the bag-to the pockets thereof as shown 1`n Figs. 1 and 2, these tabs S and S' having'fasteners on the inside thereof en agin yvlth, the Socket members T and T' wvden t eytab Siais-in an exposed positionjon theb extenonf'of thebag as shown in -Fi 4. The `tah S or S' can be used as a ho de r for a handkerchief or for a similar Another object of the invention is the prop urpose. -1-
In the making., of this improved bag, it wlll be evident that the diferently Colored.
. facings B and C' are extended uniforml corresponding respectively to the colors of the flaps E or F as normally these pockets are not exposed when the bag is closed.
I am aware that previous attempts have been made to make' reversible hand bags of the ordi'na circular form, ut I believe it is new to conpocket type of an oval or struct a fla-t hand bag which is reversible, of
.e herein disclosed.
If t e person using the bag desires to have the facing B upon the outside thereof, then the body portion Ais bent downwardly in the position shown in Figure 3. The clasp m which is located at what may be called the free end of the body portion A is .turned about its swivel so that the fastener member m' is upon the underside of the bag. When the fastener member m' is caused'to engage in the socket R the bag i completely closed.
By keeping the fastener m in the position shown in Figure 13 and by bending it u wardly until the member m' en ages t e socket R', the facing C is expose so as to give the appearance of an entirelyV different lbag having anentirely different color. Each of the facin out departing from the spirit of my invention.
Havin thus fully described my invention, what I c aim is:
1. A reversible hand bag composed of two opposed members constituting a fiap, said flap having at one end thereof an outwardly Opening ocket, the flap being foldable on either si e of the pocket and constituting a closure therefor in either position, the flap and pocket when in unfolded condition havg a different contrasting finish on opposite sides thereof. v
2. A reversible hand bag com osed of a member constituting a flap, said ap having at one end thereof an outwardly opening pocket, the-fiap being foldable on either side of the pocket and constituting a closure therefor in either position, the flap and pocket when in unfolded condition having a different contrasting finish on opposite sic es thereof and cooperable means on said flap and pocket for holding said parts in closed relation in either position.
3. A reversible hand bag com osed of a member constituting a flap, said ap having at one end thereof an outwardly Opening pocket, the flap being foldable on either side of the pocket and constituting a closure therefor in either position, the flap and pocket When in unfolded condition having a different contrasting finish on opposite Sides thereof and carrying means mounted on one side of the fiap to servel as a handle when said flap is in closed position.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a reversible hand bag comprising two opposed members of contrasting finish on opposite Sides, one serving as an outer exposed surface to the bag in one condition and the other serving as an outer surface in the reverse condition, the two members bein connected alon three Sides thereof wit the fourth side isconnected and open, there bein a pocket between said o en Sides, the
sald two members being readi y bendable at flaps, a partition member located intermedi-I ate said separated flaps and connected therewith, members connected to said partition member and to each of said flaps so as to form pockets, the pieces of material forming said body portion being freely bendable about the said pocket in both directions so as to expose both Sides thereof, the said bodydportion being of suficient length to provi e end of said pocket.
6. A hand bag com rising a pocket portion, a substantially flit two-ply body portion continuous thereof with opposite faces of different contrasting finish, the said body portion being bendable about the said pocket portion in both directions and being of sufiia cover member to close the openace inward cient length to include a cover member adapted to be bent over the mouth of the said pocket portion, and handles located on said body ortion adjacent the base of said cover mem er.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my Signature.
MAX BERKOWITZ.
