Description
1 1,528,147 G. A. DURKEE STAIR NOSING I Mar. 3, 1925.
Filed March '26. 1923 D0817 Geozye c/Z flw e Patented Mar. 3, 1925.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. DURKEE, OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, ASSIGNOR/ TO THE DURKEE MANUFAC- TUBING COMPANY, OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.
STAIR NOSING.
Application filed March 26, 1923. Serial No. 627,939.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. DURKEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stair Nosings, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in stair nosings and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein the mar ins and particularly the ends are so formed whereby the same can be brushed over with a cloth without the liability of the cloth catching.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved stair nosing whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the I better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a sectional View illustrating a stair nosing constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position;
nosing constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and which is formed of brass or other desired metal. The corners on of the nosing are rounded as clearly illustrated in the drawings and the ends of the nosing are bent inwardly and downwardly as at 1 so that when-the nosing is in applied position a wiping cloth may be smoothly passed thereover and without the liability of the cloth catching in the ends or corners of the nosing.
It is also to be noted that the opposite longitudinal marginal portions of the ends are inwardly flexed or bended as at 2 to further facilitate the wiping of the nosing when in applied position.
As disclosed in Figures 1 to 3 the nosing N comprises an upper tread strip 3 and a front depending flange 4. I do not wish however to be understood as limiting myself to the particular design of the nosing for as example the same may be of a cross sectional formation as illustrated in Figure 6 wherein in cross section the nosing N is substantially concavo convex.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a stair nosing constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention issusceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as here'- inafter claimed: 1
I claim A As a new article of manufacture, a stair nosing comprising an upper tread strip and a front depending flange, the corners of the nosing being rounded and the marginal portions thereof bent inwardly and down wardly.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature. I
- GEORGE A. DURKEE.
