UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN F. KIEDAISCH AND SAMUEL J. WALLACE, OF KEOKUK, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED DRAWERS AND LABEL-HOLDERS.
Speeilicafion forming part of Letters Patent N0. 152,754, dated July 7, 1874; application filed September 6, 1873.
To all whom it may concernI Be it known that we, JOHN FREDERICK KIEDAIsCH and SAMUEL JACOB WALLACE, of Keokuk, Lee county, Iowa, have invented a Combined Drawer and Label -Holder, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists, first, in making storedrawers and receptacles for drugs, seeds, and other goods, with holders to supply labels for marking packages oftheir contents, when sold, me., and, second, in certain details in the holders to adapt them to the purpose. It is made substantially as hereinafter set forth, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which 1 Figure l shows one form of the invention, and Fig. 2 the same in another form.
The drawer A is made of suitable size, form, and material to serve its purpose to -hold the drugs, seeds, or goods in store. In one corner of this is made the holder for labels for labeling packages of the goods. This is formed of the two side walls, B F, and two walls, C D, forming a rectangular chamber, large enough to hold the labels. The labels rest on end in the holder on cross-parts between walls B D, which leave the bottom open for the escape of dirt, &c., falling into the holder. The top of side D is cut away at E, to allow the Enger to separate and grasp a label. The walls B D F are cut away to receive a cover, G, to keep out dirt, &c., and to hold in the labels when the drawer may be turned up to pour out the contents. The cover is pivoted at H, so as to turn aside to open the holder.
The act of pushing in the drawer causes the open cover G to strike the side casing and close to over the holder.
The holder chamber may be out in the wall B if thick enough, when an opening, I, is cutfrom its bottom out to let out dirt, Ste.; or, if the wall B be too thin, the walls C D and bottom parts may be made of tin suitably bent and attached.
If, for any reason, it is desired. not to have the holder inside the drawer, it is attached outside, as shown in Fig. 2. In this case the holder may be open at one end, sidewise or otherwise, with cover part arranged to cover the ends of the labels, or otherwise, or without a moving cover, and may be arranged to be closed at the top so as not to need an open bottom to discharge dirt.
The label-holder may, in some cases, be made a part of the drawer-frame or drawerholder, but suitably arranged within the drawer for use.
W'e claiml. The box or store-drawer A, for goods, having combined with it a holder for a stock of labels, as set forth.
2. The box or drawer A, having combined with it a label-holder having a cover, G, substantially as set forth.
3. The box or drawer A, having combined with it a labelholder having an open bottom for discharging dirt, as set forth.
