UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

RHODE ISLAND.
DISPLAY BOX.
Application filed February 9, 1924. Serial No. 691,838.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS D. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and Stateof Rhode Island, have invented Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in display boxes and the primary object of same is to provide novel means of a simple and inexpensive character for supporting the box at an incline so as to contents. 1 i
A. further object of the invention is to provide box supporting means which can be easily and quickly applied to and removed 1 from the box and housed therein.
The invention still. further aims to provide supporting means which enables the customary appearance of the box to be preserved.
Other objects will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1, is a side elevation of the preferred form of the invention;
Figure 2, is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3, is a section on line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the supports;
Figure 5 is a top plan View;
Figure 6 is a side elevation of a modified form of the invention;
Figure 7 is a section on line 77 of Figure 6, and I Figure 8 is a section on line 8-8 of Figure 6.
In accordance with the invention, a box is employed having a bottom 20, sides 21 and ends 22, transverse strips 23 being secured adjacent to the ends in spaced relation thereto to form end slots.
The supports are preferably formed of pasteboard and include bodies 24 the lower or bottom edges 25 of which are formed to flatly seat on a supporting surface. The upper end portions of the supports are formed with necks 26 of reduced width, providing shoulders 27 which engages the sides 21 and restrict movement of the necks box.
, posed above the new and useful Improvements in Displaymore effectively display its .the end 2 of the box, a
'the end. The ably pasteboard which is formed to seat through the slots and afford seats for the The supports and shoulders are formed so that the box will be held at an incline with its lower longitudinal side dissupporting surface.
From the above it will be apparent that two supports may be easily and quickly applied to and removed from the box ends, and after removal may be housed within the box to facilitate shipping or storage.
Obviously the supports may be variously configured so as to present an attractive and ornamental appearance.
In accordance with a modified form of invention, a box is employed with a bottom as 1, ends 2 and 3 and sidest, as usual. At transverse strip 5 to lie spaced from support includes a prefermember 6, the bottom of on a supporting surface, while the upper end thereof has an attenuated neck portion 7 of a width to freely pass through the space between strip 5 and end 2 of the box. The shoulders 8 resultant from the reduction in width of the neck portion 7, abut the sides 4 of the box and restrict movement of the neck through the slot or space between strip 5 and end 2 of the box. The upper end of the neck is demarked by a line of weakening 9, the portion beyond the line forming a head 10 which may bear advertising or other matter as desired, the line of weakening permitting the head to be bent so as to lie at an incline, as shown in Figure 1.
From the above it will be apparent that the line of weakening or fold 9, permits the head 10 to be folded so as to allow the support to be housed within the box in order to 95 facilitate shipping, or storage. In applying the support to the box, it is merely necessary to pass the head and neck through the slot between end 2 and strip 5 until the shoulders 8 engages sides 2, following which the head is bent to lie at an incline.
The body 6 may be shaped as desired to enhance its appearance so as to render same attractive.
Having thus described my invention, what 105 I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a box having a slot extending along each end thereof, a pair of supports having bottoms formed is suitably secured so as to seat on a supporting surface and having topst'orrned to be inserted through said slots With shoulders at the bases of the tops to engage the box bottom, the shoulders being spaced above the bottoms of the sup ports to hold the entire box spaced above a supporting surface.
2. In a display box, a box having a transverse strip secured thereto spaced from a Wall of the box to form a slot, and a support for the box separate therefrom to hold same at an incline having a surface engaging portion and'a neck with sl'ioulders'at the peel: base, theneckbeing insertibl'e' in the slofland the shoulders beingengage'able with the box.
3. Ina display box, 'a box having a pair of slots at its opposed end'sg'and pair of independent supports formed separate from the box' and inse'rtible' at their tops in the respective slots so as to be eacli' held in operative position by 'tlre slot and having parts at their tops to; engagethe box bottom to hold the latter at an incline, said supports being removable from the slots sojas to be stored in the box, v

and supports for the box having parts 1nsertible in the slots.
6. In a disp'laybox, a box having a strip at each end thereof extending thereacross to form slots in conjunction With the ends, and supportsfor the box having parts insertible in the slots and having shoulders to restrict movement of the supports. in the Slots. A H
