D. CAVICCHIOLI TOY DEVICE Filed Feb. 7, 1923 awvewtoz Danie Cal/zcckzolz, hi5 Guam Lego (9 W Patented Feb. 17, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
DANTE CAVICCHIOLI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Tor nnvrcn.
Application filed February 7, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANTE Cnviocnionr, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'loy I Devices, of which the following is a specificaved structure provided with means forcontrolling the entrance to the cave whereby the striking of said closure means will release a figured body to permit of its projection at the top of the toy; a further object being to provide means for supporting the toy device on a floor or other surface; a further object being to provide a toy device of this class which may be compactly folded together; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construction and operation, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a front view of my improved toy illustrating the method of its operation;
Fig. 2 aback view of the toy shown in Fig. 1 with parts in a different position; and,
Fig. 3 a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In practice, I provide a front board or plate member 5 which is suitably pictured to represent a cave structure provided with an aperture 6 representing the opening or admission to the cave and pivotally mounted in cars 7 at the back of the plate member 5 is a U-shaped member 8 forming an easel or support for the toy device, one end portion of the U-shaped member being eXtended as shown at 9 to engage a clip 10 which operates to lock the member 8 in an extended position, and another clip 11 is employed for holding the member 8 in a folded position against the back of the plate member 5.
Serial No. 617,453.
A door 12 is pivotally mounted in ears 13 at the back of the board or plate member 5 and controls and closes the cave opening 6 at the bottom of said plate member. The upper end of said door is provided with an extension having an outwardly turned lip 14: and a suit-able spring 15 cooperates with the extended end of the door 12 to normally hold said door in an operative position as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing.
The slide 16 is mounted in a suitable keeper 17 at the back of the plate n'lember 5 and at the upper end of said slide is the representation of a suitable animal, being or object 18, the lower end of the slide is provided with an inwardly turned lip 19 which cooperates with the lip 14 of the door 12, and a spring member 20 serves to hold the slide 16 in engagement with the lip let of the door 12. A spring 21 is secured to the keeper 17 and the free end of which is passed through a keeper 22 on the slide 16.
I11 the use of my improved toy the device is set upon a floor, table or other surface at a predetermined distance from the party playing with the toy, and a ball, ring or other object is advanced toward the toy, or the plate member 5 thereof, endeavoring to enter the cave opening 6, and if the ball or other object successfully passes into the opening 6 the door 12 is moved backwardly or inwardly, which operation releases the slide 16 and the representation of an animal, being or object at the top of the slide is projected above the top of the board or plate member 5 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
It will be understood that the balls, rings or other devices referred to may be ad vanced by hand or by the use of suitable tools, such as guns, pistols or the like, and a toy device of this class will amuse both young and old, and while I have shown certa-in details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, it will be apparent that I am not necessarily limited to these details, and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
