nritiiindooiribtiilair.
Be it known" that I," Stem -G CAMP- BELL, a citizeir f'o f"the United States of America, residing -atlthe city of Stl "Louis, State of Missouri, United States of America, have invented a certain new and useful Angle-Cock Holder, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an angle cock holder and particularly to improved means for firmly clamping the train pipe adjacent to its junction with the angle cock.
In the acompanying drawings, which illustrate one form of holder made in accord ance with my invention, Figure 1 is a top plan View, Figure 2 is a front elevation, and Figure 3 is a side elevation.
The holder comprises two members 5 and 6 respectively, pivoted together at 7 so that they may be separated sufiiciently to pass around the hexagonal head of the angle cook. The member 5 is provided with a flange 8 and the member 6 with a flange 9, the two flanges forming a pocket for the angle cock head and being so shaped as to allow the body of the angle cock 10 (shown in dotted lines in Figure 2) to be positioned at the usual angle. The members 5 and 6 are each provided with an upwardly projecting threaded shank 11.
12 is an angle plate secured to the end of the car 13 by suitable means, such as the bolts 14 and provided with holes 15 for the flange of the shanks 11. Nuts 16 engage with the shanks to draw the holder upwardly against the supporting plate. In order that the tightening of the nuts 16 may not only draw the holder into position against the supporting plate, but at the same time cause the members 5 and 6 to firmly clamp the train pipe 17 (shown in dotted lines in Figure 2) it is necessary to incline either the walls of the holes 15, or the shanks 11. In the drawing I have shown the shanks 11 provided with inclined faces 18 for this purpose. It is to be noted that the pocket formed by the flanges 8 and 9 is of sufiicient size so that it will not come into contact with hexagonal head and thus interfere with the clamping of the trainpipe. It,'however, will prerentqappreciable rotation of the angle cock; Some means should be provided for locking thc nuts 16" and thus maintaining the members in firm clamping engagement with the train pipe. This is accomplished by slitting the ends of the shanks 11 as indicated at 19 so that the ends of the shanks may be spread by the insertion of a suitable tool.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with pipe holding means comprising a pair of members pivotally connected and each provided with a threaded shank, of a support having openings for the passage of said shanks, and nuts engaging said shanks.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with pipe holding means comprising a pair of members pivotally connected and each provided with a threaded shank, of a support having openings for the passage of said shank, said shanks and support having an inclined contact, and nuts engaging with said shanks, whereby the action of said nuts causes said members to clamp the pipe.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination with pipe holding means comprising a pair of members pivotally connected and each provided with a threaded shank and with a flanged portion for forming a pocket for the head of the angle cock, of a support having openings for the passage of said shanks, said shanks and support having an inclined contact, and nuts engaging said shanks, whereby the action of said nuts causes said members to clamp the pipe.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination with a supporting plate adapted to be secured to a car, of a holder comprising two parts pivoted together and adapted to clamp a train pipe, and a stud on each part of the holder, said studs engaging with the supporting plate to secure the parts of the holder in clamping position around the pipe.
5. In a device of the class described, the combination with a supporting plate adapted to be secured to a car, of a holder comprising two parts pivoted together and adapted to clamp a train pipe, and a stud 011 each part of the holder passing through an opening in the plate, one of the studs being provided with an inclined face cooperating with the plate to move the parts toward each other to clamp the train pipe.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination with a supporting plate adapted to be secured to a car, of a holder com prising two pocket members pivoted together and adapted to clamp a train pipe and enclose an angle cock head, and a stud on each part of the holder, said studs engaging with the supporting plate to secure the parts of the holder in clamping position around the train pipe and angle cock head.
7. In a device of the class described, the 15 combination with a supporting plate adapted to be secured to a car, of a holder comprising two pocket members pivoted together and adapted to clamp a train pipe and enclose an angle cock head, and a stud on each part of the holder passing through an opening in the plate, one of said studs being provided with an inclined face cooperating with the Plate to move the Inem-- hers toward each other to clamp the pipe. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal.
