UNITED STATE-s ROBERT DEMING, OFCIEVELAND, OHIO.
BOOT-DRYING APPARATUS.
Application filed May 4,
T all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ROBERT DEMING, a citizen of the United States, resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boot-Drying Apparatus, of which the following is a specifica-tion, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other` inventions.
My invention relates to boot drying apparatus, its object being to provide a device of this character which may be easily manu factured, simple in construction and efficient in its operation. The said invention consists of means hereinafter fully `described and particularly set forth in the claims.
In the annexed drawings:
Fig. 1 represents a front elevation of anr apparatus embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 represents, upon an enlarged scale, a fragmentary axial section.
Fig. 4 represents a longitudinal section of the device when knocked down and assernbled for transportation.
Fig. 5 represents a prospective view of the device assembled.
Fig. 6 represents a section taken on line VI--VL Fig. 4.
Fig. 7 represents a side elevation of a modih'ed form Fig. 8 represents, upon an enlarged scale, a fragmentary axial section of the modified form.
Fig. 9 represents an elevation of the lower end of one of the tubes forming a part of the device with the cap removed; and
Fig. l() represents a section taken on line IX-IX, Fig. 8.
Referring first to the form of heater shown in Fig. 1, the device comprises a base l and two tubes 2-2, each consisting of two The base consists of two similar parts 3 and 4 which are complementary to each other, hinged along the one edge 5 and when closed, as shown in Fig. 5, forming al rectangular receptacle. The ends 'of the receptacle are provided with hooks 6 and eyes 7 by means of which the two parts may be secured in their closed position as shown in Fig. 5 and are secured in their open position as shown in Fig. 2. Secured 1922. Serial No. 558,339.
upon the inner surface of the side 8 of one of the two parts are two pairs of lugs 9 9, adapted to enter apertures 10-10, formed in the lower sections of the tubes 2 2, whereby these tubes may be detachably mounted and supported as shown.
When the receptacle is opened and locked it forms a base for supporting tubes 2 asl the cap is secured a socket 17 in which a` heating element such as a candle may be mounted. Assuming the above described parts to be assembled as shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, when it is desired toI use same the hooks 6 are detached and the two parts opened to to assume the position shown in Fig. 2, whereupon the hooks are caused to engage the eyes and lock theparts in such open position. The tubes are then assembled and attached to the lugs 9, the candles first having been lighted. Y
The boots to be dried may then be placed over the tubes in inverted position as shown in Fig. 7. The heated air and gases pass upwardly into the boot and emerge fro-m. the botto-1n thereof, carrying any moisture from within the boots with them.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 7, I have shown a single tube supported by a bracket 18 which may be secured to a wall or other support 19. In this form, furthermore, I have substituted an electrical heatving element 20 for the candle, a suitable support 21 being provided for this electrical element which is removably secured to a socket 22 which is mounted upon the removable cap.
What I claim is:
1. A base for supporting and containing a heating device, consisting of a rectangular box-like receptacle hinged at one longitudinal edge and separable upon a diagonal plane intersecting the hinge to form two relatively movable parts; means secured to the inner surface at one of the sides which is hinged and adapted to support a heating device; and means for locking said two receptacle parts in their' open or closed p0- sition.
Thqeomhination oil a baeefolr siippoiting end cntaining a heatingdevi'ce,' consisting of two hinged parts adapted when closed to form a rectangular '.zceceptacle;
means for locking said two parts 'in their open o1 closed position; and a telescopic Vheating nbe detachahly secured to one 0i 10 :''Saiid parte. i
Signed by me this 22nd day of April, 1922.
ROBERT DEMING.
