Be it known that 1, ARTHUR A'rwiirnn KnN'r, a citizen of the -United States, re-
siding in Ardmore, county of'Montgomery [and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Condensers and Holders Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a condenser and. a holder therefor, and more particularly such as may be employed in connection with interrupter or timer mechanism of ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine.
This application is a division from my application Ser. No. 121,806, filed September 23,1916, upon which have issued Letters Patent of the United States No. 1,395,427, November 1, 1921. I
My invention resides in a condenser unit or structure having terminal strips communicating with the different armatures or plates of the condenser and extending longitudinally of the unit exteriorly thereto and then transversely.
My invention resides further in a condenser and a holder therefor with means for securing the condenser terminals in electrical communication with the holder members which are insulated from each other.
My invention resides in the features of construction and arrangement hereinafter described and claimed.
For an illustration of one of the forms my invention may take, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

base or holder member. Suitably related thereto is the rotatable shaft 2 driven by the internalcombustion engine whose ignication with the base 1 through the arm 5.
The stationary interrupter or timer contact 9 is carried upon the metallic member 10 secured upon the metallic cover or upper holder member 11, the contact 9 being in electrical communication with the member 11.
Rotation. of the cam 3 effects periodic separation of the contact 8 from contact 9, the spring 7 in each instance returning them into engagement with each other.
The member 11 is secured to the base 1 by the screws 12 and 13 extending through the base 1 and threaded, respectively, into the lateral projections 11 and 11 of the member 11.
Surrounding each screw is a bushin 14 of insulating material disposed in a ho e in the base 1. A washer or spacing member 15 of insulating material surrounds the screw 12 and is dis osed between the base 1 and member 11. similar washer 16 surrounds the screw 12 and is disposed between the under side of the base 1 and the metal washer 17 beneath the head of the screw 12. Similarly, the spacing member or washer 18 and washer 19, both of insulating material, surround the screw 13 and are dis posed, respectively, between the base 1 and member 11, and the metal washer 20 and the under side of the base 1, the metal washer 20 being disposed under the head of the screw 13.
By these structures the upper holder member or cover 11 is firmly held to the base -1 but insulated therefrom, whereby the interrupter or timer contacts 8 and 9 are insulated from each other when separated.
To shunt the contacts 8 and 9, there is provided the condenser unit 21, which is ordinarily rolled condenser consistin of ribbons of tin foil or-the like separa by ribbons of paper or other dielectric material and rolled into the form shown. (3on necting with the different armatures oropposite faces thereof, that is, ,on the up er an ower faces thereof, in the examp e illustrated.
I i The terminal 22 is bent at 24 at right angles and continues in the transversely extending portion 25. Similarly, the terminal stri 23 is bent, at right angles at 26 and exten s transversely 1n the portion 27. As indicated, both strips 22 and 23 may emerge from the condenser unit at the same end thereof.
The condenser unit 21 is held clamped 7 between the holder members 1 and 11, as indicated, and the terminal strip members 25 and 27 extend transversely of the longitudi- -Furthermore, the same structure nal extent of the unit 21, to the same side thereof. The terminal'member 25 extends over' the washer 18 and is clamped by the screw 13 between the washer 18 and the under side of the cover member 11, whereby one terminal of the condenser 21 is firmly clamped or held in electrical communication with the-cover member 11. .The terminal member 27 extends beneath the washer 15 and'is disposed between it and the upper side of the base 1 and is securely clam ed or held thereto by the screw 12, where y the other terminal of the condenser is in electrical communication with the base 1.
By this structure of the condenser terminals and b the described mode of clamping them, per ect electrical contact between the different lates or armatures of the condenser an the members 1 and 11 is effected. as screws 12 and 13, which hold the members 1 and 11 securely to each other, alsoserves to effect the intimate electrical connection between the condenser terminals and the members 1 and 11. r
What I claim'is:
1. The combination with acondenser unit, of a holder therefor comprising members I between which said condenser unit is held,
a terminal on said condenser unit extending transversely of the longitudinal extent of said unit to a distance from said unit, a
spacing member between said holder memtallic at a distan e, apart, less than the length of said condenser unit,'and means holding each of said terminals in electrical contact with one of said holder members at a distance to .one side of said condenser unit.
3. The combination with a condenser, of a metallic terminal strip extending to one side thereof, metallic members between which said condenser is disposed, a member of insulating material between said mem-' bers, said terminal strip disposed between said insulating member and one of said memembers, and means extending throu h said insulatin member holding said metal ic members in 'xed relation to each other. v
4. The combination 7 of terminal members extending transversely of the longitudinal extent'of said unit to a distance from said unit on the same side thereof, metallic members insulated from each other between which said condenser is disposed, and means for each terminal member clampin .it against one of said metallic members and holding said metallic members in fixed relation to each other, said terminal members contacting, respectively, with the different metallic members.
5. The combination with a conducting base member, ofa condenser unit, terminals projecting therefrom, a conducting holder member'between which and said base member said condenser is held, lateral projections on said holder member with which said terminals register, means extending through one with a condenser unit, I
of said projections securing said holder'- member to said base member and securing one of said terminals in contact with said base member, and means extending through another of said projections securing said holder to said base member and holding another of said terminals in contact with said holder member.
