Description

Dec. 23, 1 24. 0 1,520,007
0 v M. v. BRUNK- CAP, HA'T, AND. BONNET r1100 Juno 2, 19
ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 23, 1924.
UNITED STATES MARY V. BRUNK, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
oar, HAT, AND BONNET.
Application filed June 2, 1921.
To alZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARY V. BRUNK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps, Hats, and Bonnets, of which the following is a specilication.
lily invention relates to improvements in caps, hats and bonnets for women and children, and is an 11111310V811'1E11't on the articles disclosed by my U. S. Letters Patent No. 1,380,525 granted June 7, 1921. The important features of the present invention consist of loops secured to opposite sides of the article and a band extending freely through said loops and adapted to extend around the back of the neck and be tied under the chin of the wearer to hold the article in position upon the head.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of the bonnet made in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the bonnet.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the crown of the bonnet.
Fig. l is a plan view of the brim of the bonnet.
Referring now more particularly to the form disclosed by F l to 4, inclusive, 2 designates the one-piece crown which is capable of being flattened out so that it can be easily ironed after being washed. Said crown 2 consists of flexible goods such as gingham, calico, etc., and is cut out at each corner as indicated at l to form marginal flanges 6.
8 designates the one-piece brim, which like the crown 2, is capable of being flattened out and consists, preferably, of some stiff fabric having sufficient body to insure the preservation of the shape of the complete bonnet when the parts are assembled. Said brim S has a front margin 10, side margins 12, and a rear margin 1%, and is provided at its upper surface with a band 15 which is secured at four different places by suitable means such as transverse stitches 16, leaving Serial No. 474,537.
the rest of the band 15 free so that three of. the flanges 6 of the crown 2 may be passed through the spaces between the brim 8 and the band 15 and thus secure the crown 2 and the brim 8 together. The brim 8 is also provided with loops 17 through which a band 20 is slipped. Said loops 17 and band 20 constitute the important features of the present invention and are adapted to secure the article in position upon the head by extending the band 20 around the back of the neck and tying its free ends beneath the chin of the wearer.
lVhen the bonnet is to be laundered the crown 2 is removed from the brim 8 and the band 20 is removed from the loops 1.7. After the parts have been laundered they are again assembled by passing the front and two side flanges 6 of the crown 2 through the three openings between the brim 8 and the band 15 while the band 20 is replaced in the loops 18. The ends of the band 15 are then tied into a knot 22 at the rear of the crown as disclosed by Figs. 1 and 2, to hold the rear portion of the crown 2 in place at the rear of the brim 8, which is curved into U-form to fit over the top of the head and extend downwardly at each side of the face of the wearer. The free ends of the band 20 are then passed beneath the chin and tied into a bow knot to prevent the bonnet from being blown off the head.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
An article of the character described consisting of a crown, having flanges, a brim detachably secured to said crown, loops peir niane-ntly secured to opposite sides of said brim, and a band extending freely through said loops and adapted to extend between the back of the neck and one of the flanges and be tied under the chin of the wearer.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
MARY V. BRUNK. l Vitnesses F. G. FIsoHnR, L. G. Freeman.
