SHOE-TONGUE DEVICE.

This invention appertains to shoes and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel device for effectively holding a shoe tongue in place against slipping laterally downwardly'while the shoe is eing worn. J

A further object of the invention isthe provision of a flexible loop or loops disposed at predetermined points on a shoe tongue at the longitudinal center thereof for receiving the shoe lace, whereby the tongue is held in 29 correct position, the formation of the loops being such as to render the lacing of the shoe easy and to cause no discomfort to the wearer. I

A further object'of the invention is to provide novel means for holding a shoe tongue in position, which consist in providing woven thread loops for receiving a shoe lace, which extend through the tongue, the loops being hid at the inner face of the tongue by so thelusualtongue lining.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved and novel attachment for shoes of the above character, which is durable and eficient in use, one that is at; simple and easy to manufacture and one which can be placed upon the market and incor orated with shoetongues at a small cost. ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction,

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters dev signate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter. A. generally indicates a shoe upper provided with the usual shoe lace opening or eyelet 5 for receiving a shoe lace 6. The tongue 7 of the shoe is of the usual construction and is adapted to engage the inner face of the upper.

In the wearing of shoes considerable discomfort is caused the'wearer by the shiftin of the tongue laterally or downwardly, an while attempts have been made to overcome this tendency, such attempts have all resulted in failure in view of the fact thatthe means utilized causes discomfort to the wearer in some instance and will not stand up in use in other instances.

In accordance with my invention ll provide woven flexible loops 8 which are passed directly through openings 9 in the tongue 7 preferably disposed at the longitudinal center of the tongue. llhe rear face of the tongue can then be covered with the usual lining which serves as additional means for holding the flexible loop in place. While in the drawings 1 have shown a pair of loops 8 arranged adjacent to the upper end of the tongue, it is to be understood that only one loop can be used if so desired or two or more loops used and one positioned at the top of the tongue and the other at'a point intermediate the ends of the tongue.

While the loop, 8 can be formed in different ways, prefer to construct the same out of a plurality of strands of thread and then unite the different strands by button-hole stitching or the like.

By referring to Figures 1 and 2, it can be seen that the attachment can be used respectively irrespective of how the shoe is laced.

From the foregoing description, it can be seen that l have provided an exce tionally simple and durable attachment or shoes which will cause no discomfort to the wearer and which will effectively hold a shoe ton 'ue thereof extending through openings formed in a raised position against lateral shift ng. in the tongue and projecting outwardly movement. from the outer face of said tongue.
