Description

A. LANGE SHAVING MUG Filed April 18, 1924 r @flzgzw ZL awe,
AUGUST LANGE, O3? CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SHAVING MUG.
Application filed April 18, 1924. Serial No. 707,447.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that l, AUGUST LANGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicage in the county of Cook and State of 5 Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shaving Mugs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to receptacles and more particularly to shaving mugs.
An important object of this invention is to provide a shaving mug consisting of upper and lower sections having means whereby the same may be securely connected to prevent the escape of soap or liquid.
5 A further object of the invention is to provide a shaving mug which is neat in appcarance. desirable in use and cheap to manufacture.
Uther objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is. a side elevation of the improved shaving mug;
Fig. is a vertical sectional view through the same;
Fig. is detail horizontal sectional view through the handle.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the inventioin the numeral. 5 generally designates the improved mug consisting of upper and lower sections 6 and 7 respectively having their adjacent portions formed with concentric ribs or enlargements 8 and 9.
As illustrated in Fig. 2 the opposed sides of the ribs 8 and 9 are formed with annular grooves for the reception of a packing 10 of suitable material. When the sections are joined as illustrated in Fig. 2 and the packing is in position an absolutely air tight connection is provided between the upper and lower sections so that the soap in the lower section is not caused to dry.
Fig. 2 illustrates that the upper and lower sections 6 and 7 are hingedly connected as indicated at 12 and the hinge 12 consists of a pair of straps 14; more or less V-shaped in elevation and having their extremities re ceived in the grooves in the opposed sides of the ribs 8 and 9. It is thus seen that those special sockets are necessary for the reception of the hinged straps 14.
The lower section is provided. with a feed screw 16 upon which a follower disk 18 is mounted and a knob 20 is connected to the feed screw so that the turning of the handle or knob will result in the vertical move ment of the follower.
As illustrated in 2 a handle 22 is formed integral with the lower section and extends upwardly a substantial distance to overlapping relation with the upper section 6. The front wall or connecting member 24 of the handle 22 is provided with a longitudinal socket 26 for the reception of leaf spring 28 by means of which the upper and lower sections are held together. The upper portion of the leaf spring 28 is more or less Eli-shaped to provide a fulcrum 27 and a hook 29, the fulcrum member 27 being flatly engaged with the adjacent portions of the section 6 while the book 29 is v extended over a lug 30 on the upper sec tion.
It will be seen that by pressing inwardly on the knob of the leaf spring; 28 the spring will be moved about the fulcrum 27 so that the hook 29 will be disengaged from the lug 3O whereupon the upper section 6 may be swung upon a hinge.
The knob is provided with a shank or stem 37 freely slidable through the front wall 2 of the handle.
In operation the lower section is filled or partly filled with soap and the upper section is then swung to closed position. Then it is desired to gain access to the lower section it is merely necessary to press inwardly on the knob 32 and the spring will be released from looking engagement with the up er section.
aving thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A shaving mug consisting of upper and lower hingedly connected sections having their opposed sides formed with grooves a packing received in said grooves, a handle carried by the lower section and extending into overlapping relation with the upper section, a leaf spring carried by the handle having a hook to engage the upper section, and means to actuate the spring to release said hook from engagement with the upper section.
2. A shaving mug comprising upper and lower sections, means hingedly connecting said sections, a handle carried by the lower sectionand extending into overlapping relation'with the upper section, said handle being provided with a front wall having a socket, a spring anchored in said lower portion of the socket and having its upper portion formed with a hook, the upper section of the mug being provided with a lug engaged by said hook, and a finger piece slidable with relation to said front wall of the handle and connectedto said spring.
3. A shaving mug comprising upper and lower sections, means hingedly connecting said sections, a handle carried by the lower section. and extending into overlapping relation wit-h the upper, section, said handle being provided with a front wall having a socket, a spring anchored in said lower portion of the socket and having its upper por tion formed with a hook, the upper section of the mug being provided with a lug engaged by said hook, and afinger piece slidable with relation to said front wall of the handle and connected to saidspring, said spring being provided below said hook with a bend forming a mug contact portion.
at. A shaving mug comprisingupper and lower sections, means hingedly connecting said sections, a handle connected to the lower section and extending into overlapping relation with the other section, said handle being provided with a front connecting member having an elongated socket, a lcat spring anchored in said socket and havin ans-shaped upper portion defining a hook and mug contact portiointhe upper section being provided with a lug engaged by said hook, a linger piece having a stem slidablc through said front connecting portion and connected to said spring, and discharge means within the lower section.
