WINDOW-SHADE MOUNTING.

Application filed April 17, 1923. Serial No. 632,594.

To all whom it may concern:

' Be "itknown that 1, Lotus SHARKEY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bath Beach, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVindow-Shade Mountings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means for detachably mounting a Window shade upon a window casing, and has for its main object to provide a device of the character stated whereby a window shade holder may be detach-ably and adjustably mounted upon a window frame, vertically thereof, so that the lower portion of the shade may be brought down to the lower portion of windows of various heights.

A further object of the invention is to provide means for accomplishing such a result that shall be simple in construction, effective in operation, durable in use, and in which the parts are not liable to become disarranged from their working position.

Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, hereinafter stated, the invention con sists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically stated, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown a device embodying the structure of the invention in its preferred form, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and

modifications may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention.

In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and wherein like characters of refer ence indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein:

Fig. 1. represents in side-elevation a window shade, partly in section, and a holder mounted upon a window casing;

As illustrated in the drawings, shade supporting bars 1 are mounted in any suitable manner upon the sides of a window frame 2. These side bars are made of bendable material such as sheet metal, so as to be reversely doubled over on themselves, the inner'member or base 3 of which may be of any desired formation, provided with apertures adapted to engage studs or screws by means of which the bars may be secured to a window casing.

In the drawings, the inner member 3 is shown extending beyond the other members of the side bars. That is not an essential feature of the invention, however, and if desired the inner member 3 may be of the same width, or of a lesser width than the remaining members and be secured to the casing in any suitable manner.

The outer member 4 of the side bar is recessed longitudinally on its margin 5 and prised of oppositely disposed members 7 and 9 doubled over on themselves at one end, and provided at the doubled-over end with an aperture adapted to hold the extension of the end of a shade roller.

One aperture 10 is made rectangular to receive the flat end of a roller, as shown in Fig. 5, while the doubled end of the opposite clip is provided with a round aperture 11, as shown in Fig. 6.

The rectangular aperture 10 is shown in Fig, 5 as surrounded by portions of the clip member. If desired, however, the upper portion 12 of said member above the aperture 10 may be cut away, forming in that end of the clip a recess adapted to receive the flattened end of a shade roller.

The members 7 and 9 of the clip are offset from each other at their outer ends, and the member 7 is provided with an inturned lip 13 and an offset lip 14. When the clip is in position on the side bars, the outer fold and the intermediate fold of said bar are engaged between the oifsetmembersof said clip, as shown in Fig. 3, the inturned lip 13 engaging the outer member 4 of the side bar and the offset lip 14 resting within the notches 6 of the side bar, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. I

By means of such construction, the clip is firmly held by the outer fold 4 and the intermediate fold of said side bar against rocking or torsional movement. 'The offset portion 15 of one of the members ofsaid clip by bearing against the inner margin ofthe outer fold of the side bar and the inturned lip 13 by engaging the outer margin of the member 4: of the side bar. like-- wise prevent torsional movement of the clips.

A stop 16 of any desired construction may be provided on the side bars to prevent the clips from being removed fron'rthe side bars.

Vhen the device is inuse, the roller may be supported at any desired height on a window frame within the limits of the length of the shade; and the lower portion of the shade may be brought down to the bottom of the window frame, irrespective of the height of the Window relative to the length of the shade.

In addition thereto, a window shade of a given length may be mounted upon a window frame at different heights thereon, by removing the clips from one set of recesses and notches to another set on the window casing, thereby enabling any desired portion of the window to be shaded, and any desired portion of the window above the shade to be exposed.

For most purposes I prefer to support the flat end of the shade roller within an angular aperture, such as indicated by 10in Fig. 5, rather than by means of an open slot formed in that end of the member. By means of such construct-ion that end of the roller shade is held firmly in place.

hat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. The combination with a window shade roller, of a side bar doubled on itself to provide three members, the outer member having marginal recesses, said recesses having notches at one end thereof, and a clip engaging an end of said roller and the notches of said recesses. P

2. In combination with a window shad roller, a side bar comprising a fastening member, an intermediate member and an outer member, said outer member having marginal recesses with notches in the lower parts of the recesses, and a clip doubled on itself and having a recess adapted to support one end of said roller, the free ends of the clip adapted toslidably embrace the intermediate and outer member of the side bar, said clip having at one of its free ends an inturned port-ion engaging the recessed edge of the outer member of said side bar, said clip also having at one free end thereof an offset lip adapted to engage the notches of the outer member of the side bar. 3. The combination with a window shade roller, of aside bar doubled on itself to provide three members and a stop,'the inner member adapted to receive a fastening for supporting the side bar, the outer member provided with marginal recesses having notches at their lowerrportions, and a clip having an open end for-detachably engaging an end of said roller, said clip having an offset lip adapted to engage said notches, said clip having a slidable engagement with said sidebar limited by said stop I 4. The combination witha window shade roller, of a side bar doubled on itself to provide three members, the inner member adapted to .receive a fastening to support the side bar, the outer member having marginal recesses with notches in the recesses, and a clip comprising a piece of sheet ma terial folded on itself to provide two members, said members having an aperture to receive an end of the roller, one member of said clip being offset'from the other member forming a fork adapted to engage the outer and intermediate members of said side bar, one member of said clip having through, one of the members of'sa id clip having an inturned portion, and an offset lip, the other member being offset from the first named member and arranged in part substantially parallel therewith.
