Description
T. PEVKLEN K NEWSPAPER HOLDER Fied 001:. 23, 1922 Patented Nov. lg, 1924.
frnnnsn PEKLENK, or WAYNE, NnBnA'sKA.
NEWSPAPER HOLDER.
Application filed-October 23, 1922. Serial No. 596,478.
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that TnnnsA P'EKLENK, a citizen of the United States, residing at `Wayne, in the county of lVayne and State of Nebraska., has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Newspaper Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in newspaper holders, more especially for the convenientholding of the same in a straight and flat condition, to permit the sheets to be turned over like the leaves of a book, with facility and to be easily read.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description of the construction and operation, taken in connection with the accompanying illustration thereof.
The invention therefore consists of certain instrumentalities and features of construction substantially as hereinafter inore fully disclosed and defined by the appended claims.
The drawings illustrate the preferred embodiment of one form of my invention wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications as relate to the detailed construction and arrangement of parts inay be made without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention as covered by the claims, and in which drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail of one of the hinges of the frame section.
Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional view showing more fully the newspaper puncturing and retaining clips in enlargement.
Fig. 4 is a Sectional enlargement taken on the line .ll- 4 of Fig. l.
In carrying out my invention, I suitably provide a frame l of light metal of preferably wire-like type which is in two sections la, la, the adjacent or connected edges of which are suitably hinged to a central member or rod 3, as at 4-4, to provide for the bringing together and spreading apart of the sections la in book-coVer-fashion for reasons as will be apparent subsequently. The rod or member 3 is provided with a suitable handle 3a at one end and extended at its opposite end, the extension terminating in a loop or eye 31), or otherwise adapted to pr vide for the convenient suspension of the device out of the way when not required for use.
` The handle or central member or bar 3 has suitably connected thereto, preferably by electrical welding, transverse members or bars 5, preferably of light steel wire, so arranged as to underlie lateral wires or members ll-a, bracing or staying thel end members of the frane-sections la to each other, respect-ively, and depressed at their terminals as at a, the central or handled member 3, by
reason of the depression of the terminals a of the transverse members 5, being thus allowed to be in alinement with the lateral members ela, and the transverse members 5 providing for supporting the frame-sections la. The lateral members 4? have their terminals or ends fixed to the frame sections la preferably by electrical welding, at suitable distances from the hinging points between said frame sections. The central member 3 is provided preferably with two pairs of fasteners or rings clasps 6, adjacent the ends thereof, each member or limb of a pair being formed approximately semi-circular, and having its shank or inner end pivotally connected in any suitable manner to the part 3, the opposite end of the limb or member being pointed for puncturing and readily entering the paper, the points of the limbs or members of each pair being arranged to extend in opposite directions and spaced about three-sixteenths of an inch apart for suitable engagement with the newspaper. The newspaper, being applied to the holder, as it is obvious may be readily done after spreading or opening the folder where desired and then catching or engaging the pointed ends of the clasps or fasteners at the required point of fold of the paper and puncturing the same. The fasteners are then closed to forn closed rings which will effectively retain. the paper and permit the convenient holding of the latter by means of the holder, in either open or closed position.
I claim:
l. A device of the type described, including a frame comprising two sections, with longitudinal parallel members fixed to the end members thereof, a central longitudinal member having said sections hinged upon opposite sides thereof, said central member being provided with paper clasps adjacent the lower and upper ends of said frame, and transverse supporting members fixed to said central longitudinal member and underlying said longitudinal parallel members.
2. Av device of the type described, includs UI ing a frame comprising two sections, with longitudinal parallel members fixed to the end-members thereof, a central longitudinal member having said frame-sections hinged upon opposite sides thereof and tra-n'sverse members fixed to said central longitudinal member and having depressed terminals underlying said longit-udinal parallel members.
V3. A device of the type described, including a frame comprising two sections, having longitudinal parallel members fixed to the end-members thereof, a .central longitudinal member having said sections hinged to opposite sides thereof and having a fixed transverse member with depressed terminals underlying said parallel longitudinal members, said central longitudinal member being provided with pairs of eircular paperholding clasps having pointed puncturing terminals, the points of each pair of Which extend in opposite directions and are adapted to be spaeed apart to receive a 'folded newspaper therebetween and to be closed to retain the newspaper.
In testimony Whereof she aflixes her si gnature.
TERESA PEKLENK.
