T o @Zlio/1,0m i may concern Be it known that I, HENRY G. HOLSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Casper, in the county of Natrona and State of lVyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Vashing Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention contemplates the provision of a washing device designed for use on motor operated vehicles, so that the surface of the car is always protected from the detrimental elfeots o-f a strong stream of water, and allowing the device to be movedover the body of the car without scratching or otherwise injuring the same.

More specifically stated, the invention contemplates the provision of a hollow perforated member adapted to be connected with a water supply pipe or a hose, so that the water is broken up into various streams in the form of a spray when applied to the vehicle body, considerably retarding the force of the water to protect the surface of the car, the perforated member being covered with a soft material having a fringe projecting therefrom, so that the fringe portion can be moved over the surface of the car to clean the same without any danger of scratching the paint or otherwise injuring the surface.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying` drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in sec-A tion of one embodiment of the invention.

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawing in detail, and particularly to Figures l and 2, 10 indicates a hollow member designed tobe threaded or otherwise suitably coupled with the adjacent end of a water supply line or hose 11. The member 10 is closed at one end, and is preferably perforated longitudinally along one side as at 12. The openings 12 are elongated as shown, and are covered by a covering of relatively soft material. The covering is in the nature of a sleeve adapted to be slipped upon the member 10, and termi nates to provide a somewhat pointed extremity as clearly shown in Figure 1. This covering or sleeve like member is made up of two pieces of flexible material indicated at 1.3 and 14 respectively, which pieces are laid one upon the other, and then shaped to form a sleeve like member, these pieces being stitched together and also to the additional strips of similar' material indicated at 15, which strips form one side of the covering. This construction is illustrated in Figure 2, wherein it will be noted that the strands of fringe 16 are passed between the pieces 13 and 14 of the covering and also between the strips 15 justreferred to, the strands of fringe being' all attached to the covering by the same line of stitching 17 which secures the materials 13 and 14 to the strips 15. The covering in its entirety with its fringe portion can be easily slipped over the tub-ular member 10 when it is desired to use the device, it being noted from an inspection of Figure 1 that the fringe portion lies directly beneath the openings 11 of the tubular member 10 so that the water passing through said openings from the member maintains the fringe portion always saturated. Consequently the device can be moved across and in contact with the surface of the car being washed to thoroughly clean the same without scratching or otherwise injuring said surface. It is to tbe understood that while the member 10 is preferably of cylindrical contour in cross section, it may be varied in size and shape without departing from the spirit of the invention, and the covering correspondingly changed to accommodate itself to the tubular member.

While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
