A.R.FERGUSSON TOY RAILWAY STARTER CLOCK Filed Sept. 29. 1923 Ag f?. iA lll" Patented Nov. ll, i924,
NNE@- ALAN R. FERGUSSO'N, OF BUFFALO, NE'W YORK.
TGYV RAILWAY Application filed September To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, ALAN R. FnRoUssoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ,Toy Railway lStarter Clocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toy devices or accessories for toy railways, and more particularly to a miniature toy railway starter clock, an object of the invention being to provide a toy device or toy railway accessory which may be readily and easily manufactured at a minimum of expense, and which at the same time will be relatively strong and durable in use.
A further ob 'ect of the invention is to provide a toy accessory for toy railways, wherein the support includes a wire formed upright, and wherein a member or a signal device, such as a clock dial and pointer hand, is secured to the wire upright in an efficient and improved manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a tov railway starter clock comprising a' wire formed support and wherein a clock dial is secured to a wire upright member of the support and arotatable pointer hand is also carried thereby.
A further object of thisinvention is to provide a toy railway starter clock having a base formed from a single length of wire which is bent to form a single vertically extending wire member, and wherein a dial and pointer hand are fastened to said wire member.
A further object of this invention is to provide a toy railway accessory having a vertical wire upright provided with a projecting portion drawn or formed from the metal of the wire, and wherein a member or a signal device, such as a clock dial and pointer hand, is mounted upon said projecting portion and held thereon.
A further object of this invention is to provide a toy device or accessory for toy railways having a wire formed upright member and wherein a movable arm or member is directlyT supported by said wire upright in an improved and efficient manner.
Other objects of this invention will appear in the following described and appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this stranfrna CLOCK.
29, 1923. Serial NO, 665,559.
specication, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several views and wherein Fig. l is a perspective view illustrating an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary rear view illustrating the upper part of the device; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevation partly in section illustrating the upper part of the device.
Before explaining in detail the present improvement and mode of operation thereof, l. desire to have it understood that the invention is not limited to the details of construction and arrangement of parts which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, since the invention is capable of other embodiments, and that the phraseology which I employ is for the purpose of description and not of limitation. Y
In the drawings, I have illustrated a present preferred embodiment of my invention as applied to a toy starter clock adapted to be used by a child asan acoessory for toy railways. The device preferablvcomprises supporting means bent up or formedfrom a` single length of wire, and as illustrated` in 1 in the present instance, the supporting baseA is formed by a single coil 9. nThe coil 9 is located in a horizontal plane and has thefree end 10 thereof terminating adjacent to the opposite end of the coil which is bent inwardly toform'a radial extending horizontal. portion l1, the latter being bent up substantially midway of the coil to form a single vertically extending wire supporting member 12. From this construction it will be seen that a relatively simple but efficient wire supporting means is provided., preferably comprising a single horizontal wire coil having a horizontal inwardly eX- tending radial portion and a single vertically extending wire upright. 4all thereof bent up or formed from a single length of wire.
Adjacent to the upper free end of the wire upright member 12, the latter is flattened at 15 to provide an extended fiat portion of greater width than the diameter of the wire., so as to form a bearing surface for a suitable clock dial 13. The latter is preferably stamped ont of a piece of sheet metal into circular form, one face ofwhich is provided with numerals designating the hours. Centrally of the flattened portion 15 and by any suitable mechanism the metal of the wire is forced or drawn outwardly to provide a transverse or lateral projecting porcomprising a single coil of wire bent to form a single vertically extending wire member having a flattened portion provided with a laterally projecting stud formed therefrom, and a dial fastened to said stud,
13. A toy railway accessory having a base comprising a single coil of Wire bent to form a single vertically'extending memberk having a flattened portion provided with a laterally projecting stud formed therefrom, a dial1L and a rotatable pointer secured to said stur.
14. A toy railway accessory having a base comprising a single coil of wire bent to form a single vertically extending member having a flattened portion provided with a laterally projecting stud formed therefrom, a dial and a rotatable pointer secured to said stud, said dial having a pair of laterally extending clips embracing the vertical wire member.
15. In a toy railway accessory, a wire supporting means comprising a wire formed base provided with a radially disposed wire member bent to 'form a single vertically extending wire member, a signal member, said signal member and vertical wire member having one projecting means formed from the metal thereof for connecting the members together.
16. In a toy railway accessory, a wire supporting means comprising a wire formed base provided with a radially dispo-sed wire member bent to form a single vertical extending wire member, a signal member, said signal member and vertical wire member having each projecting means formed from the met-al thereof Jfor connecting the members together..
17. A toy railway accessory comprising a base having a wire upright member provided with a laterally projecting stud formed therefrom, a clock dial mounted on said stud, a rotatable pointer alsov mounted on said stud, and means for holding the dial against rotation.
Signed at Bulfalo, New York, this 27th day of September, 1923.
ALAN R. FERGUSSO'N.
