Description
CASPER-KITTINGER, OF MASSILLON, OI-IIO.
MACHINE FOR LAYING QN VENEERS STRAIGHT 0R QUEVED.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CASPER KITTINGER, of Massillon, in the countyk of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented. a new and Improved Mode of Veneering with Mahogany or Any other Kind of Vood, Both for Straight and Circular l/Vo-rk of All Kinds and Descriptions of Moldings, Drawers, Fronts, &c., reference being had to the ac'- companying drawings, which make a part of the description, in which- Figure l is a perspective view and Fig. 2 a transverse section.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I take a piece of two inch plank b, of some hard wood, say six or eight feet long and one foot wide, which I make use of for a nut, through which the screws o, o, o, 0, 0, o, o, &c., say from one to forty pass. I then take three or more pieces of hard wood a, a, a of two inch plank, say two feet long and one foot wide, through each end of which, as shown at d, d, I pass a screw bolt to prevent them from splitting by force of the screws 0, 0, &c., when in operation. I then make a mortise through each of those pieces for the plank Z9 to slide into or through, as shown at h. One of these is placed at each end and one in the middle of the plank b. I then make another mortise in each of the same pieces as shown at 5, i, i to admit of the rods or bolts c, c, secured with nuts f, f, and to admit of the setting of therods c, c, to any width of work; these mortises should be lined with plates of metal, those rods'or bolts may be made of wood or iron and will require to be the same length as the plank ZJ. I then take a band jot sheet iron, leather, or cloth, two ends or sides of which I make fast to the rods c, c, either by nailing on or screwing around. I then take a piece of plank of such length and width as will accommodate the workto be veneered and place it on the ends of the screws, on which plank It I place the work la, Z, to be veneered over which the cloth or band passes. I then turn the screws which press the work sufficiently tight against the bands to produce the desired effect. l
What I claim as my invention is rlhe combination of the screw or screws and band when constructed substantially as herein described, using for that purpose any metal or other substance which will produce the intended effect; Fig. 2 a cross section of the machine; a, one of the blocks; bed piece through which the screws o, 0, pass; cl, d, d, screws to prevent block a from splitting; z', mortise for rods c, c, to work back and forth in; y', the band; 7L a plank on which to place the work to be veneered; g, a plank over which the handy' passes to press the work.
