W. P. SPRIGG SAFETY RAZOR ATTACHMENT Filed May 22 1922 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 ATTORNEY Patented Get. 2%, 1924.
WALTER P. SPRIGG, 0F BOSTON, MASSACIIUSETTS.
. SAFETY-RAZOR ATTACHMENT.
Application filed May 22, 1922. 1 Serial No. 562,756.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALT-ER P. Srnrco, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razor Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for safety razors, the principal object of theinvention being to provide acup for catching and retaining the lather and preventing it from running down the handle.
Another object of the invention is to make the device collapsible so that it will occupy but the minimum amount of space when not in use.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter, fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figures 1, 2 and 3 are views showing the.
invention as used with one kind of razor.
Figures 4 and 5 are views showing the at tachment collapsible.
Figures 6 and7 show a modified form of the invention, Figure 7 being a sectional view showing the device attached to a razor. Figure 8 is a view of another modification. Figure!) is a sectional view of a further modification. V t
Figure 10 is a view of another form of the invention;
In these views. 1 indicates the attachment which is made in the form of a cup which. has an opening 2 in its bottom through which the handle of the razor, shown at A, passes. The end pieces of the cup are extended, as shown at 3, to engage the blade 4' of the razor and spring strips 5 are connected with said end ieces and said strips have hooks 6 thereon or engaging the ends of the blade. Thus the cup will be secured to the razor, with one side, which is slightly bent, slightly spaced from the blade so as to permit the lather,,scraped from the face by the blade, to enter the cup and be retained therein.
hen the cup is to be detached from the razor it is simply necessary to spread the strips 5 apart so as to release them from the blade and then the device can be removed from the razor. v
In order to permit the device to be folded up to occupy the minimum amount of space I may hinge the sides to the bottom and the ends to one side, as shown at 7 in Figures 4 and 5, and the remaining side and bottom may be connected with the ends by the clips 8. In this way the cup can be folded when not in use and it can be easily and quickly set up when it is'desired to be used.
Figures 6 and .7 show the invention formed to fit another type of razor. In this case a bar 9 passes across the top of the cup, having its ends connected with the ends of the cup, and this bar is provided with three holes 10, the central one receiving the handle and the other two the lugs 11 of the razor. The handle screws down upon the bar and thus clamps the device to the razor blade. I
Figure 8 shows the device formed with a bar 12 extending transversely across the cup to engage the handle of another type of razor.
The form shown in Figure 9 has an inwardly extending piece 13 rovided with a hole for receiving the han e ofthe razor. The form shown in Figure 10 has its open end of inclined shape to fit another type of razor. This form carrying the spring strips 14 for engaging the razor so that thls form is somewhat similar. to the first form.
By the use of this invention the lather is caught and held by the cup and there is no danger of it running over the hands or clothing of the person using the razor.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided'that such changes fall within tachably connecting the receptacle with the razor, such means consisting of spring clips at the upper edges of the ends, said spring clips having hooked ends for engaging the ends of the razor blade.
2. A razor attachment comprising a receptacle having sides, ends and a bottom, means for detachably connecting the receptacle With the razor, said receptacle formed with its sides and bottom hingedly connected together and clips holding the attachment in set-up condition, and other clips carried by said sides and constituting the attaching means named.
3. A. razor attachment comprising a receptacle, spring clips carried by said receptacle for detachably connecting it with the razor in a position with its mouth adjacent the razor blade and disposed thereunder, the edge of the mouth at the cutting edge of the blade flaring outwardly to receive the lather as the same is scraped from the face by the blade.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
WALTER P. SPlEtliGG.
