Description

Oct. 28 1924.
J. W. REDDING SHADE HOLDER Filed May 6, 1922 Patented Oct. 28, 1924.
UNITED STATES JOSEPH W. BEDDING, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
SHADE HOLDER To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'Josnrrr W. BEDDING,
a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shade holders for electric light fixtures and has for its object to provide a shade holder from which a shade may be quickly removed or to which the shade may be quickly attached.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shade holder of neat and attractive appearance which may be screw threaded to an electric fixture and from which the shade may be quickly removed simply by-tilting the same and to which the shade may be attached in the same manner.
With-the above and other objects in view I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a top plan View of my shade holder;
Figure 2 is a sectionalview of my shade holder attached to an electric fixture and showing the manner of attaching or detaching the shade;
Figure 3 is an elevational view of Figure Z; and
Figure 4 is a section on line 44 of Figure 1.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which, 1 indicates a shade holder for electric light fixtures which consists of a cylindrically formed member 2 having an inclined top wall 3.terminating at its upper end in a right angular screw threaded flange 4- adapted to thread on to the screw threaded end 5 of the lighting fixture (L The rylinder 4 is provided with 3 spaced apart indentations will readily slip from the indentations 8 and The metal- 9 and from the shade holder.
Application filed Ma 6, 1922. Serial No. 559,086.
from which the shade holder ismade is sulficiently thin and flexible to allow for the slight give in the same as indicated in dotted lines I) of Figure 2, thus, some slight pull would be necessary in order to release the shade whereby accidental displacement of the shade will be avoided.
A series of spaced apart channels 12, terminating at their ends in apertures 13, formed in the process of stamping the fixture, are provided to reinforce side wall to top wall, so that said holder will retain its natural shape. These channels extend around the side and over the top of the fixture and form the ornamentation therefor as do the figures 14 alternating with said channels.
Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. A shade holder of the character described formed of a single dish-shaped member having imperforate side walls and a lower edge of a greater diameter than that of the edge of the shade to he held thereby, said walls having indentations spaced above said edge and a series of channel forming beads spaced around said holder.
Q. A shade holder of the character described formed of a single dish-shaped-member liming, imperforate side walls and a lower edge of a greater diameter than that of the edge of the shade to be held thereby, said walls having indentations spaced above said edge and a. series of channel forming beads spaced around said holder, each of said beads having its upper end perforated.
3. A shade holder of the character described formed of a single dish-shaped memher having imperforate side Walls and a lower edge of a greater diameter than that of the edge of the shade to be held thereby, said walls having indentations spaced above said edge, a series of channel forming beads spared around said holder, each of said beads having its upper end perforated. and means for securing said holder to a lamp socket.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH W. REDDING. lVitnesses:
ETTA FINKELSTEIN, CARRLE E. RnDDING.
