ANDREW THOENI, O'F DENVER, COLORADO, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF 0 A.
i; SANDO, OF DENVER, GOLOZEt-AEO. 1
CLOTHES CLAMP.
Application filed. August 20, 1923.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW THoENi, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, the city and county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes Clamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a clamp intended to be employed for the purpose of securing the covers in place on a childs bed or crib.
Everyone who has had any experience with raising children knows from experience how difficult it is to keep them properly covered at night. If the child is too warm or restless for any reason, it will kick the covers 0E and unless this is discovered in time he will become cold. In order to prevent this, many expedients have been resorted to, among which the one most extensively employed consists in pinning the covers in place by means of safety pins. Safety pins invariably tear the blankets, sheets and mattress and are very unsatisfactory.
It is the object of this invention to produce a simple, cheap and convenient device that can be used for fastening the bed covers in place and which will not tear the same.
My device, briefly described, consists of a piece of suitable wire bent so as to form a closed loop, a portion of which is long and narrow and adapted to engage and clamp the corners of the bed covers, which may be introduced thereinto, and another portion of which is in the shape of a hook that can embrace a vertical or any other convenient part of a bed. Means is also provided for locking the ends together so that they will not open.
In order to more clearly describe my invention, I shall have reference to the accompanying drawing in which the preferred embodiment of my invention is shown, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a childs Serial No. 658,324.
crib showing the covers secured to the bed by my improved clamping means;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the clampmg device;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view looking in the direction of arrow 3 in Fig. 2;
Fig. A is a section taken on line M, Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the clamp is employed.
The same reference characters will be used to designate the same parts throughout the several views.
Numeral 1 represents the bed covers and 2 a vertical rodlike member of the bed, while 3 represents the clamping device.
The clamping device consists of a piece of spring wire of suitable size having one portion 4 thereof curved into an arc of substantially one inch radius, although any other suitable curvature may be employed. Another portion 5 is bent reversely, forrning a narrow slot 6 which is adapted to receive a corner 7 of the bed covers. The eX- treme end of the arcuate portion 4 is formed into a hook 8 in the manner clearly shown in Figs. 2 and S and the other end of the wire forming the clamping device is bent back upon itself as indicated by numeral 9. The end 9 can be disconnected from the hook 8 when it is desired to connect the same to the bar 3. A rubber tube 10 preferably encloses the wire at the arcuate portion so that it will not scratch the finish of the bed.
The manner in which the clamping device is used is clearly apparent from Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawing, but may be briefly described as follows:
The clamping device is opened and placed around some stationary part of the bed, like bars 2. A corner of the covers is inserted through the clamping device and pulled back into the narrow slot 6 where they will be engaged and held'fast. As nothing but the smooth sides of the wire contacts with the covers, there will be no tearing. The covers can be released by moving them back into the enlarged portion.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A clamping device formed from a wire of suitable size, said wire having one end said hook extending radially with respect portion bent into a hook, a portion adto the curved portion, and a covering memjacent to 'said hook curved, a second porber of yleldable material on said curved 10 tion formed into a narrow slot; the other portion.
end of said Wire being adapted to engage In testimony whereof I afiix my signaw and cooperate with thehook to secure the ture.
device in place on an anchoring member, ANDREW THOENI. i
