Description

Sept s@ w24, www5 R. ERATTON CHANGE QUICK UNDERWEAR Filed Feb. 5, 1923 Patented Septa 3Q, i924...
tiri" ROSCOE BRATTON, OF LEBANON, INDIANA,
CHANGE-QUICK UNDERWEAR.
Application filed February 5, 1923. Serial No 616,975.
T 0 all who/m, t may concern:
Be it known that I, Rosoon BRAT'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Boone and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Change-Quick Underwear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to under garments such as are commonly spoken of as athletic underwear and has for its object the provision of such a garment which may be easily and quickly put on or removed even without the necessity of removing the outer clot-hing and which shall be of improved construction and comfortable and eiiicient in use.
The invention is exemplified in the combination and arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawing and described in the following specification, and it is more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing- Fig. 1 shows the garment unfastened and opened; and
Fig. 2 is a pictorial illustration showing the garment in place on the wearer.
In Fig. 1, the numeral 10 designates the main body of the garment which may be made from a single sheet of suitable fabric, thegeneral shape of which is rectangular, as shown. The top portion of the garment is shaped to provide front and rear shoulder straps 11 and 12, respectively, having openings 13 between the straps for accommodating the arms. Suitable fastening means is provided at the ends of the straps which may consist of buttons and button holes, snap fasteners, hooks and eyes, or any other suitable fastening device. The rear straps are somewhat longer than the front straps so that when the garment is in place the fastening will be located in front of the shoulders in a convenient position, as shown in Fig. 2.
A slit 15 is provided at the central lower portion of the garment and triangular flaps 16 are secured to the edges of the slit portion by means of seams 17. The lower outer corners of the portion 10 may be cut away at an angle as shown at 18 so that when the garment is in place and the flaps 16 folded over the front portions of the lower limbs,
the edges of the flaps will overlap the edges 18 so that the edges may be secured together by fasteners 19 to form the legs of the garment. Fasteners 2O are provided to secure the garment along the front.
It will be apparent that any suitable material may be used and the garment may be cut from woven cloth or may be formed by weaving, knitting or other suitable process in a single piece, or fashioned in any suitable manner. y
It will be apparent that the garment may be put on or taken olf in the usual manner by simply unbuttoning the fasteners 20, but it also may be put on or taken off by loosening all of the fastenings, in which case it is unnecessary to move thel arms or legs through any holes or openings so that the garment may be removed by simply drawing it away from the body without the necessity of removing any clothing from the legs or arms. The convenience of this will be readily understood, as for instance, in cases where the under clothes have become wet with perspiration or soiled in any way the garment may be removed by separating the shirt and trousers at the waist line, unfastening the securing devices, and drawing the garment away from` the body at the waist line. The shirt, trousers, shoes, coat, vest and hat may all be retained in place, if desired, during the removal or replace- .ment of the garment.
In placing the fresh garment in position it is only necessary to place the straps 12 over the shoulders from the back beneath the outer clothing and secure them to the front straps by the fasteners 14. The securing devices 19 and 20 may then be fastened and the outer garments readjusted.
Another advantage of the construction is that it may be opened fiat, as shown in Fig. 1, for laundering purposes. It is well known that it is much easier to iron a garment that opens into a fiat position than one having tubular leg and arm portions, whether the ironing is done by hand or by a mangle.
Various modifications may be made with out departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.'
I claim An under garment comprising a polygonal sheet having a central slit extending in- Warclly from the lower edge thereof to provide legportions, the outer corners of said loWel1 vv"edgebeing ,angularly out away, 'and separate tl'lngulm"portions secured to the 5 edges of said slit to :told about the legs ol the wearer and to brg 'theffl'eedg'sTof sind trlangular portlons lnto 'legstyetmp ljespeetvely with the cut-away portions at the @liners ofsaid sheet along ,lrklesst the front and outer sldes o l' tllrlegs off jhfyvgirer.
' In testimony Whereofl have signed my name to this specification on this 26 day of RosooE BRATTON
