L. R. WEINBERG DUSTPROOF PIANO COVER Filed May '23 1922 Laurence Rweinber Patented Sept. 16, 1924.
ICE.
sessies@ .WEJFNBERQ or. CLEVELAND. omo.
. nUs'r-rnoor Brano COVER.
V A-pplication. led May 23,
To ali whom t may concern' Be itnknown that LLAURENGE R. BERG, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and. State of. Ohio', have invented certain newv and useful. Improvements in Dustproof Piano Covers, of which the'following is a specilication.
My said invention relates to a dust proof cover for pianos, which with slight modifications may also be foundVV useful for other articles of furniture such as davenports, dressers and the like.
It is an object of my invention to provide a dust proof cover which may be made up in a single piece and can be quickly applied to or removed from furniture.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cover which shall securely enclose every part of the object protected thereby and which shall thoroughly safe-guard the same against entrance of'dust at any point.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a plan of the cover in open position prior to the sewing together of part of the edges, and
Figure 2, a perspective of a piano with a cover applied thereto.
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates the bottom of the cover which is next to the floor in applied position, 11 indicates the front, 12 the top, and 13 the top back which hangs over the piano at the rear side. The back is indicated at 14, the top back and back proper being shown in Figure 2 as partly rolled back to indicate the connections for the edges of the different sections. The side sections are indicated at 15 and extending therefrom are the back iaps 16. Straps 17 are secured to the back flaps and straps 18 to the back and top back sections respectively.
The bottom section has openings 19 for the front casters and 20 for the rear casters, the openings 20 being oblong to permit application of the cover to any of the well known pianos some of which have the rear casters diiferently set from others. At the edges of the top back section and at corresponding'parts of the back flaps there are rows of snaps 21. I
Before puttingmy device in use I prefer to sew the edges of the blank shown in Fig- 1922.. lSerial No. 563,026.
ure 1v beginning at 22 on the top back, i. e., WEIN-Y about two inches from the top of the piano, and sewing together the corresponding -edges of the top back, top, front and bottom to the corresponding edges of the side flap and rear flap as indicated in Figure 2 by dotted lines 23. The back and the greater portion of the top back remain unattached as -well as the back flaps.
In the use of my device the bottoni part is located underneath the piano with the casters projecting through openings 19 and 2O and the cover as a whole forms a sort of a bag which can readily be brought over the piano from the front. The back flaps are now strapped together by straps 17, the back and top back are secured together by straps 18 and the top back is secured to the back fiaps by snaps 21. In this way it will be seen that all the top, front and bottom edges of the piano are enclosed by either integral or sewed edge portions of the cover while the rear portion of the piano is similarly enclosed or else is enclosed by parts which overlap to a considerable extent thus effectively excluding dust from the instrument.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that the device may be modified in various respects to serve as a cover for pianos 0r other articles of furniture all without departing from the spirit of my invention, the true scope of which is indicated in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention whatl I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A one piece dustproof piano cover comprising' a. front section, a top section adjacent the front section. and a top back section adjacent the top section, a bottom section adjacent the front section and extending opposite to the aforesaid sections, a back section adjacent the bottom section. a. pair of side sections similarly shaped adjacent opposite sides of the front section, a` back flap adjacent each side section. said parts being so formed that when applied to the pia-no all the top, front and bot-tom edge-s of the piano are enclosed, the top back section overlapping the back section, and the back section overlapping the back flaps, substantially as set forth.
2. A one piece dust proof piano cover comprising a front section, a top section adjacent the front section and a top back section adjacent Ythe top section, a bottom section adj acent the front section and extending opposite to the aforesaid sections, a back` section` ad] acent Vthe bottom section, a pair of Y side sections similarly shaped adj aent oppod site sides of the front'section, a bach ap adjacent each "side section, said parts being so formed that when applied Vto thefpianoall. the top, front and bottom edges of the piano are enclosed, the top back section overlap-Y sectionV ping the back section, and the back overlapping-the back flaps said overlapping straps having cooperating straps for holding the sections in place, substantially as Vset forth. Y.
'3. yA one-piece dust proofV piano cover comprising a body section, top and bottom sections adjacent the body'section and extending in opposite directions therefrom, said top-.section having an extension adapted "substantially as set'iforth. f
I have hereunto set 'Y Witnesses:
In Witness whereof, my hand and sealat Cleveland, Ohio, this 17th day of MayfA; D., nineteen hundred and twenty-two." i
