Description

Sept. 9, 1924. 1,507,860
C. G. SCHOBER BATHING APPARATUS Filed Dec. 22. 1919 2 I i l| I ll i 'l Patented Sept. 9, 1924.
UNITED STATES CHARLES G. SCHOBER, O'F BERKELEY, CALI ?OR'NIA.
BATHING, APPARATUS.
Application filed December 22, 1919. Serial No. 346,498.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. SoHoBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berkeley, county of Alameda, State of Cal ifornia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathing Apparatus, whereof the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for bathing infants.
In its general features the apparatus consists of a tub or pan, of oblong shape and moderate depth, having a fabric thereacross from side to side, upon which the infant may lie during the bathing operation. The fabric may consist of toweling or other suitable material, and may be supported by removable bars at or near the sides of the tub. The tub may contain a portion of warm, or cold, water according to the temperature of the apartment in which the apparatus is used, or it may be empty and simply receive the drippings from the operation. The apparatus includes also, a basin, supported at the head or foot of the tub, upon a suitable device, and a spray fountain hung on a standard secured to a side or end of the tub.
In the accompanying one sheet of drawing I have illustrated-my invention, and the manner of its use.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the entire operative parts of the apparatus.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the basin and its supporting rod, with the contiguous part of the tub in section, to show the connection of the parts.
In the figures :The tub or pan 1 may be of stamped metal or enameled ware, or other material. It is preferably composed of the bottom 2 and flaring sides and ends 3, so that a number of them may be nested together, for shipment or'storage. Near the top of the tub, at each side thereof, is a longitudinal bar 4, supported in holes not shown in the ends of the tub, and maintained therein by notches 6 in the bars, which engage the edges of said holes. Upon these bars is hung a fabric 7, which constitutes a bed or support for the infant. At one end of the tub is a rod 9, having its ends formed into hooks 10, which are removably secured to or near the upper or rolled edge of the tub by perforations made through the wall thereof, and extend outward therefrom the body of the rod forming a loop to. receive and support a basin 11, as clearly-shown in Figures 1 and 2. At anyconvenient location along the sides or ends of. the tub I apply a standard 12 to the top of which I hang a fountain tank 13, which may have a hose 14 and a spray, or other, nozzle 15, for an obvious purpose. The standard 12 engages the edge of the tub and maintain the standard upright.
When the apparatus is to be laid aside,
out of use, the bars 4 may be released from their fastening means, and rolled up with the fabric and laid in the bottom of the tub. The basin and its supporting rod may be similarly treated, and the tank 13 and appurtenances also, and the standard 12 turned down-into the tub. i
In the case of a cool atmosphere, itv will be found that a modicum of Warm water in the bottom of the tub will suffice to keep the infant warm, and preventits suffering therefrom. And vice versa in case of excessive heat in the atmosphere.
Having thus described my invention, and an embodiment of it, in the full, clear and exact terms required by law, and knowing that it comprises novel, useful and valuable improvementsin the art to which it pertains, I here state that I do 'not wish to be limited to the precise construction and arrangement of the several parts, as herein set forth, as the same may be variously modified by a skilled mechanic without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is the.
following, to-wit In combination with the tub of a bathing apparatus, said tub having a perforated wall, a rod hooked into said perforations and forming an outwardly projecting loop 1 CHARLES G. SCHOBER.

OSCAR POULSEN, FLORENCE L. WOLFE.
and a basin in said loop supported thereby.
