To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, IGNATz Joznrowloz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenosha, county of Kenosha, and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks, of'which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to locks and particularlyv to those adapted to be used on doors whereon a key-lock is used in connection with a latch bolt. V
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a key lock suitable for use on the ordinary door, and one which is simple in construction, easy and efficient in operation, and which requires a special key of distinctly novel and unusual construction for its manipulation7 and another object is to provide such a special key.
Another object of this invention is to provide an auxiliary locking device for a boltlock adapted to securely hold the bolt in locked position, the means for operating this auxiliary lock being such as will neither be easily recognizable, nor the proper manner of manipulation thereof easily discernible to a person not acquainted with the operation thereof.
A further object of thisinvention is to provide a lock suitable for use on the ordinary door, and one which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture and install, and eicient in operation.
Further objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
Referring now to the drawing', Fig. l is a plan view of the key lock and the latch in position on a door.
Figure 2 is an end view of these locks in position on a door, showing the special key for the key-lock opposite its key-hole.

Figure 6 is a detail view of the bolt shank and knob with the operating lug.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the draw-- ings and in which- 1 represents the lock-casing or frame comprising front plate 2, upper plate 3, lower plate 4 and rear plate 5 and central plate 6 all permanently fastened together. In this frame is slidably mounted through suitable perforations in plates Q. and 6, a latch 7 and a bolt or bolt-bar 8, each adapted to projectbeyond plate 2 when in shot position or to be withdrawn into the frame when in open position. A coil-spring 9 engaging plate 6 and a stud 10 on bolt 7 continually urges bolt 7 into shot position. 11 represents the shank of a key extending into the look and door 12. To shank 11 is pivoted a step or lug 13, as at 14, adapted when in depending position as shown in Figures 3 and 6, to engage a lug 15 carried on bolt 7, so that upon the turning of the shank 11, in one direction the lock is opened, and upon the turning of shank 11 in another direction the bolt will be shot by reason of the action of spring 9.
By turning lug` 13 into horizontal position the lock will be held in open position.
rlhe key-lock comprises a slidably mounted bolt 8 having a recess 16 adapted to receive a depending lug 17 pivoted to the shank 1S of a key 19, said bolt being adapted to be moved into locked or open position by the turning of key 19. A spring 20 mounted on the lock frame as at 21, exerts frictional pressure upon bolt 8 to restrain movement of the bolt, and to prevent the bar from being easily moved by picking at the lock or shaking` the door.
22 represents a keyhole substantially the same size as shank 18 of key 19, pivoted lug 17 being adapted to be` moved into alignment With said shank to permit of the insertion of the key into the keyhole, said lug 17 being also adapted when the key has been inserted, to fallfinto recess 16 or bolt 8, to permit of the lock being opened or shot by the turning of the key.
23 represents a lock-member or stop pivoted to the frame as at 24, and carries a shaft 25, whereby member 23 may be moved against bar 8 when in sho-t position (see Figure 4) and is adapted when in said position to positively hold bar 8 in locked position and prevent the lock from being opened by means of the key or otherwise or until member' 23 has been moved from said position. The outer end of shaft may have the shape of a screw or a knob or ornament, the appearance of which on the outside of the lock simulates the appearance of other screws, knobs or ornaments on the lock, so that its peculiar function of control and manner of manipulation may not be easily recognized by an uniformed or unauthorized person. As shown, shaft 25 comprises a screw-head simulating,` other screw-heads 27, by which a cover plate 28 for the lock mechanisms is screwed to the door and to the lock frame.

Having vthus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as folloWs Y In a lock of the class described including a 'frame and a cover plate provided with a position, a slidable bolt provided with a' seat in its upper edge, and a recess adapted to receive the bit of a key, a spring resting on said seat secured'to said frame and exerting frictio-nal pressure upon the upper edge of said bolt, a lock member or stop pivotally secured to said frame, a shaft on which said stop is mounted allowing a movement of said member against said bolt and holding' said bolt in its locked position, said shaft simulating in appearance and relative position 'said screws to cause its function to be concealed, a latch slidably mounted in said frame above said bolt, a lug carried by said latch, a knob-spindle and a lug pivotally secured on said knob-spindle adapted to operate said latch.
