OVEN FOR ELECTRIC RANGES.
Appliation filed March 24, 1924. Serial N0. 701,405.
To all lwhom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ROBERT H. MACINNES, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Hamilton, 1n the county of Wentworth and `lrovince of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful VImprovements in Ovens for Electric Ranges, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ovens for electric ranges and more particularly to the construction of electricall or spot welded ovens, and consists essentially of top and bottom sheets having rounded lateral ends to which are welded lateral sheets having oil'set top and bottom edges to overlapthe rounded ends of the top and bottom sheets forminga Hush inner surface,f
a angedrear frame welded in a seat formed by odset rear edges of the top and bottom sheets and the oiset rear edges of the lateral sheets, and a rear sheet having outwardly directed anges and set into the orifice formed by the assembling of the aforesaid members, the Hanges being welded to the inner surfaces of the anges on vsaid frame.
rlhe principal object of the invention is to generally improve and simplify the oonstruction of electric ovens and to provide parts thereof which may be readily and easily assembled, having a neat appearance with rounded corners and an interior, when enameled, resembling al single piece, no joints being` in evidence.
A further object is to provide an oven of the class described which will be simple, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
These, together with other objects may be attained by the construction, combination and arrangement of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
Referring to the drawlngs;
Figure 1 is a cross sectional side elevation of the entire oven shown broken in the middle;
Figure 2 is a cross sectional side elevation of the top sheet;
Figure 3 is a top view of the bottom sheet, a bottom view of the top` sheet being similar;
Figure 4 is a cross sectional side elevation of the bottom sheet;
Figure 5 is a sideJ elevation of one of the lateral sheets;
Figure 6 is a sectional front elevation oi the lateral sheet taken on the line 5 5 in F i re 5;
s `k igu're 7 is a sectional bottom view of the lateial sheet taken on the line 6 6 in Figure Figure 8 is a sectional front elevation oi? the top sheet;
Figure 9 is a front elevation of the rear frame and rear sheet before being separated to form the two parts.
Figure 10 is a sectional bottom view of the same taken on the line 10-10 in Figure 9- Figure 11 is a sectional bottom view oi." the` rear frame and rear ,sheet reunited by welding after being separated by cutting as inicated by the chain line in figure 10; an
Figure 12 is a sectional front elevation of one side of the oven.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The oven is formed principally of the top sheet 2, similar bottom sheet 3. lateral sheets 4, rear sheet 5, and the rear frame 6.
rlhe top and bottom sheets 2. and 3 are exactly similar in construction and are in opposed relation when the oven is assembled, as are the lateral sheets 4- which are also similar to each other in construction. The top and bottom sheets are rounded at their lateral ends as indicated by 7 .and said rounded edges are welded to oii'set portions 8 of the lateral sheets 4.` These oiset portions on said lateral sheets are provided to affect a flush or even surface to the interior of the walls of the oven, the crevices remainin at the joints being later filled with ename to present a perfectlysmooth and unbroken surface. Recesses 9 are provided in the said top and bottom sheets to contain the electric burners, but such recesses are not included in the present invention.
The rear sheet 5 and frame 6 are rst formed in a anged dish shaped sheet as shown in Fi re 10, which is cut simultaneously wit the forming thereof, on the chaink line shown in the same figure. The two parts are then set and welded,` the bottom part of the dished portions or sheets 5 within the remaining frame 6, thereby constituting a dished sheet of more shallow proportions and having double walls formed of the edges of the sheet and edges of the frame, the edges of the frame being pro vided with peripherical flanges we The reanframe 6 and the sheet '5 -are now set in the rear o'riice formed by the top-and bottom sheets and the lateral sheets, the rear edges of the top and bottom sheets being offset as indicated by 11,. and the rear `edges of the lateral sheets belng offset as indicated by 12, to receive them, as shown in Figure 1. The ange. 10 on the frame 6 abuts against the rear edges yof .the top, bottom and lateral sheets, asl indicated.
There has thus been provided an inexesive and useful oven of the class specie Havin now fully described by invention what I cIaim anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an oven for electric ranges, top and bottom sheets having rounded lateral ends, lateral sheets connectin the top and bottom sheets by having o set upper and lower edges overlappin theedges of the rounded lateral ends of t e top Aand bottom sheets,
' :,soasoa the said rounded ends and lateral sheets be* ing upon a common plane and thus providing an even inner surface to the side walls of the oven, said top and bottom sheets having offset rear edges and said lateral sheets having offset rear edges, a rear frame structure .inserted between the oii'setV ends of the top and bottom sheets and the offset ends of the lateral sheets and provided with a peripherical flange atv the outer edge thereof abuttin against said ends of the top, bottom an lateral sheets, and a rear sheet provided with an outwardly directed peripherical dan e inserted within said frame structure, su stantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
