To all whom it may concern. I Be it known that I, PERCY WILLIAM CHARLES DEMENT, citizen of the Dominion of New Zealand, residing at '74 Moxhani Avenue, Kilbirnie, Wellington, in the Provincial District of Vellington, New Zealand, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Securing Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to looks of the pin tumbler type and more particularly to means employed therewith, for the purpose of se-' curing the lock cylinders against turning movement, once the locks have been properly fitted to doors or the like.
It is known to fit cylinders of locks of the above mentioned type into casings, which by reason of their shape or by having projections therefrom, are, when properly fitted in a door or the like, held against turning movement therein, while the lock cylinders are incapable of being turned in the casings owing to the latter and said cylinders being made to interlock.
This invention provides an improved form of casing for receiving a lock cylinder, said casing being made to receive the lock cylinder and being fittedto the door or the like in such a manner that the cylinder is more securely heldagainst turning movement, and withdrawal from the casing and the casing against turning movement in and Withdrawal from the door or the like, than with known forms of casings.
According to this invention the interior of the casing which is inserted in the door or the like from the inner side is shaped to permit the lock to be passed into the casing from the outer side of the door. or'the like the lugs of the lock, at the end of the inser-Y tion of the latter into the casing, entering in recesses located so that said lugs can receive ordinary connecting screws which re tain the lugs in the recesses and so prevent withdrawal of the look from the casing.
The casing is circular in cross section, with a flat sided flange or portion which forms one end, and contains a longitudinal slot to receive the rib on the top side of the lock cylinder.
Separate holes for the connecting screws and the cylinder can be provided in the aforesaid end, or a single opening can be made therein in which case the upper edge of the opening is at a level which prevents the connecting screws from being raised,
after they have been entered in the lugs of the lock.
The hole in the door or the like is partly circular, and partly flat sided in order to accommodate the casing.

The casing 1 has a'circular exterior and is provided at one end with a flat sided' flange or portion 2 which forms an end to the casing.
The circular portion of the casing neatly fits a circular hole 3 opening through the front or that side of the door 5 from which the lock is operated by a key,-while the flat sided portion or end 2 neatly fits a correspondingly shaped hole 4 opening through the opposite side or the rear of the door. The holes 8 and 4 open into one another and the casing 1 is inserted in the door'5 from the rear by being passed through the hole t so that the circular portion enters the hole 3, and until the flange or end 2'is at the inner end of the hole 4:.
The casing 1 contains a longitudinal slot 1 in its upperportion such slot being provided to accommodate the rib 6 formed along the top of thelock cylinder 7.
The lower portion of the interior of the casing 1 is shaped or hollowed out as at 8 to accommodate the lock cylinder '7, while both sides of the upper portion of the interior of the casing are shaped or hollowed out as at 9 to permit the lugs 10 of the lock cylinder/7 to enter and pass along inside the casing 1.
In passing along inside the casing 1 the lugs 10 ride along longitudinal ribs 11 provided between the hollows 9 and hollow 8, said lugs 10 finally dropping into recesses 12 formed between the inner ends of the ribs 11 and the flange or end 2.
By providing the casing with a flat sided end such as the flange 2 which neatly fits a correspondingly shaped hole in the door 5, turning movement of the casing 1 in the door is prevented, while the interior shape of the casing 1 and the insertion of the rib 6 of the lock cylinder 7 in the slot 1 prevents said cylinder from being turned in the casing 1. Even should the rib 6 and slot 1 not be provided, the lock cylinder 7 is checked against turning within the casing and the latter against turning on the lock cylinder 7 by the screws 14.
The engagement of the lugs 10 in the recesses 12 between the ribs 11 and end 2, prevent the lock cylinder 7 from being withdrawn from the casing 1, the screws 1-1 while engaged in the lugs 10 guarding against any upward movement of the latter in an attempt to raise and draw the same outwards 0n the ribs 11. q I
Further, withdrawal of the casing 1 from the side of the door from which the lock cylinder 7 projects, is prevented by the flange or end 2, engaging against the shoulder P at the junction of the circular hole 3 with the fiat sided hole 4, whereby increased resistance is offered to withdrawal of the lock, the connecting screws 14 not taking all of the strain.
What I do claim and desire to obtain by Letters Patent of the United States of America is 2% i h 1. Improved means for use in securing locks of the kind specified, comprising, a lock receiving casing for insertion in a memher to be locked, recesses formed in the easing for receiving lugs on a lock at the end of insertion of the lock into the casing, and connecting screws fitted to the casing for retaining'the lugs in the recesses, to thereby prevent withdrawal of the lock from the casing.
2. Improved means for use in securing locks of the kind specified,.comprising, a lock receiving casing for insertion in a mem her to be locked, recesses formed in the inner surface of the easing into which lugs on a lock will drop, on the lock being inserted into the casing, an end formed on the easing, and screws fitted through the end for entering the lugs, to prevent the lugs from being raised out of the recesses. and the lock from being turned in the casing.
3. Improved means for use in securing locks of the kind specified, comprising, a lock receiving casing, for insertion in a member to be'locked from the side opposite to that "from which a lock is inserted into the casing, internal ribs formed longitudinally in said casing, recesses formed at the inner ends of the ribs for receiving lugs on an inserted lock cylinder, an end on the casing, and holes in the end to receive connecting means entering said lugs, whereby to retain the lugs in the recesses, and to prevent turning of the cylinder within the easing, the said end preventing said casing from turning in the member to be locked.
t. Improved means according to claim 3 for use in securing locks of the kind specified, said casing being formed with a circular portion for fitting a circular opening through the member to be locked from the side from'which said lock projects, said end having flat sided portions to fit a flat sided hole opening through the opposite side of the member to be locked, said flat sided portion engaging against a shoulder formed at the junction of the circular and fiat sided holes.
5. Improved means according to claim 3, for usein securing locks of the kind specified, said recesses for receiving the lugs of the lock cylinder being located between said internal ribs and said casing end, a hole in said casing end for receiving the end of said lock cylinder, said connecting screws which enter the lugs preventing the lugs from being raised away from said recesses.
6. An improved lock securing means, comprising, a lock receiving casing for insertion in a member to be locked, recesses in the easingto receive lugs on a lock barrel on insertion of the barrel in the casing, an end formed on the casing, and recess means in the end for receiving an end of the lock barrel and for receiving means connecting with the lugs, whereby to prevent withdrawal of the lock barrel from the casing.
