Description
Patented `uly 1 5 1924.
UNITED STATES VERNIE K. RAMSEY, F SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA.
SMOKING PIPE.
Application led October 20, 1921.
To all whom t may concern.' Y Be it known that I, VERNIE K. RAMSEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Santa Rosa, county of Sonoma, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Smoking Pipe, of which the following is a speciiication. y
The present invention relates to improvements in smoking pipes and its particular 1,0 object is to provide a pipe that may be smoked with comfort out; of doors regardless of the weather, that eliminates all danger of fire and may, therefore, safely be used in a barn or hay mow, and that further prevents Vany ashes from leaving the pipe while the same is being used so that a person may smoke it while riding in an automobile without having to fear that the ashes from his pipe will molest a person sitting behind him.
)Vith these objects in view I have illustrated the preferred form of my invention in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my pipe; Figure 2 is a vertical cross section through the bowl portion of the saine; Figure 3 is a horizontal cross section along line 3-3 of Figure 2, and Figure 1 a perspective detail view of a clip used in connection with my pipe.
The bowl (l) of my pipe has its upper end (2) reduced so as to form an annular seat (3) around the same. On this seat tits snugly a cap (4). The latter is provided at its lower edge with a plurality of notches (6) and a groove (7) for each notch leading Serial No. 508,991.
upward from the same into the free space (8)\left between the top of the bowl and the cap. It will be seen that when the cap is in its position the pipe will be substantially closed so that the wind cannot strike its contents and it is impossble for the burning ashes to be blown out of the bowl, while the notches (3) together with the grooves or passages (7) admit of the entrance of sufficient air to cause the pipe to draw.
To better secure the cap to the bowl I use a clip (9) shown in detail inFigure 4 and comprising a ring shaped clamp (11) adapted to lit on the capv and a springy downward projection (12) having a ball (14) at its lower end adapted to engage the bowl and to bind the cap to the same.
I claim:
1. A smoking pipe of the character described comprising a bowl having a reduced end so as to form a seat and a cap fitting on the seat having a plurality of notches along its edge and passages leading from the notches to the inside of the pipe for admitting air into the same.
2. A smoking pipe of the character described comprising a bowl having a reduced end so as to form a seat, a cap iitting on the seat having a plurality of notches along its edge and passages leading from the notches to the inside of the pipe for admitting air into the same, and a clip secured to the cap adapted to operatively engage the bowl for holding the cap to the same.
VERNIE K. RAMSEY.
