LADDER BRACKET.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that CYRUs W. ARMITAGE, a citizen of the United States of America, `residing at Canby, in the county of Yellow Medicine and State of Minnesota, has invented new and useful Improvements in Ladder Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a device readily adaptable to standing ladders for support on the rungs of the ladders to in turn support planks or boards spanning two or more adjacent ladders to provide a scaffolding beside a surface to be painted, the invention being capable of inversion for attachment behind the ladderv to bring it closer to the wall surface as the work progresses downward as in painting.
With this object in View the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevational view showing the application of the invention, two ladders being illustrated with the invention hung on each and a plank spanning the two devices comprising the invention.

The bracket constituting the invention comprises a pair of spaced triangular side frames A of which the bars 1 and 2 are disposed in converging relation and secured at the point of crossing by a rivet or other suitable fastening device 3, a transverse bar 4 spanning' the divergent ends of the bars 1 and 2 and being connected to the latter by fasteners 5 which may be rivets, screws or other suitable devices of this character. Adjacent the transverse bar 4, the bar 2 is provided with a clip 8 provided with oppositely disposed hooks 9 which form an element corresponding to that provided by the .hook 6 and the extension 7 The hook elements just referred to are spaced apart a sufficient distance to permit the rung of a ladder to pass between them and certain rungs may be engaged in the seats provided by the extension 7 and one of the hooks 9.
The two side frames A are suitably connected to provide for rigidity by transverse brace bars 10 and 11 and support by means of the transverse bar 4 a platform 12.
As shown in Figures l and 2, the brackets are attached to the ladders 13 with the platform 12 uppermost and in this position are mounted outside of the ladders, the rungs 14 supporting the brackets engaging respectively in the seats provided by the eX- tension 7 and the uppermost of the hooks 9. Zhen work is being done near the tops of the ladders, the inclination of the same brings the planks 15 spanning the brackets close enough to the wall surface to permit operation upon the latter. As the work progresses downward, as in painting, the brackets vmay be inverted and swung behind the ladders as indicated in Figure 3, in which position the rungs engage the opposite hooks 9 and the hooks 6, the platform 12 in this position being inverted and the plank or board 15 is mounted upon the inner edges of the bars 4.
Obviously longitudinal movement of the brackets to position the rungs opposite the spaces between the complemental hook elements will enable the withdrawal of the bracket and the oppositely arranged hooks provide for its being swung in either position with the platform uppermost or with the platform lowermost.
