CASTING FOR FOB INGOT MOLDS.
T0 10129 112 it may concern:
Be it known that BLOOMFIELD H. Howarip and ERNEST J. TURNER, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at ashingtoni 'District of Columbia, and Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Castings for Feeders for Ingot Molds, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in castings for feeders for ingot molds.
The object of our invention is to provide a casting for forming ingot mold feeders made of plastic material for forcing the plastic material under pressure through a passage in the casting whereby a feeder is made of a shape to correspond to that shown in an application of even date.
Another object of our invention is to provide a casting in which a feeder can be formed having a large number of inwardly bellied walls and outwardly curved walls. adapted to form ribs on the outer face of the feeder for supporting the feederon the mold and having a series of inner walls of a contour approximately that of the outer Walls.
A further object of our invention is to provide a specially shaped casting adapted to form a correspondingly shaped feeder and having certain arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the lower end of a cylinder showing our improved casting attached thereto.
Figure 2 is a'transverse sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Fi ure 3 is ayieWsimilar to Figure 2 showlng the innner portion of the casting of a modified form. j
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing a modified form of outer and inner members oflthe casting. 7
Referring now to the drawings 1 represents the cylinder thelower end of which is provided with a flange 2 which is attached by means of bolts 3 to the flange 4 of the outer member 5 ofthe casting. This outer member 5 of the casting is provided with four oppositely arranged inwardly bellied walls 6, 7, 8 and 9. The ends of the in; wardly bellied walls 7 and 9 are connected by the outwardly curved walls 10 and 11,
. a pucamn ma ename nae fini l m awa- Conneotingthe outwardly curved walls .10
aridll .iiith the walls 6' and sur "two inwardly curved walls 12 and "13.
The cylinder 1 is provided at the center with a cylindrical member 14 t0 bolted the inner member 15 of the casting by means of a bolt 16. This inner member 15 is provided with four op ositely arranged inwardly bellied walls 1 18, 19 and 20, which are connected at the corners b the inwardly curved walls 21 and 22. i
In Figure 3 of the drawings the outer member 5 of the casting is constructed like that shown in Figure 2 and like reference numerals indicate like parts. In this form the inner member 23 instead of having the walls curved, .is provided with four oppositely arranged straight walls 24:, 25, 26 and 27 which are connected at each corner by two curved walls 28 and 29.
In Figure lithe outer member 28 is provided with four inwardly bellied walls 29, 30, 31 and 32 which are connected at the corners by the four straight walls 33, 34:, 35 and 36. Each of the inwardly bellied walls 29, 30, 31 and 32 is provided with an outwardly curved wall 37 arranged mid-way its length. The inner member 38 is provided with four inwardly bellied walls 39, 40, 41 and 42 which corresponds to the walls 29, 30, 31 and 32 of the outermember. These walls 39, 40, ll and 42 are connected at the corners by the four oppositely arranged walls 43, 44,45 and 46 In each of the forms, the upper ends of the walls as shown in Figure 1 are beveled as indicated at 47' and 48 which provides a passage having a flared upper end which allows a free passage of the plastic material through the opening, this material being compressed at the lower end.
comprising an outer memb'erhaving fouroppositely arranged, inwardly bellied walls connected at the corners by two inwardly curved walls and an-outwardly'curved wall and an inner member having inwardly bellied and inwardly curved walls to correspond to the walls of the outer member.
4:. A casting for feeders for ingot molds comprising inwardly bellied walls connected by inwardly curved walls and an inner member having straight walls opposite the bellied walls of the outer member and connected by inwardly curved walls opposite the inwardly curved Walls of the outer member.
