VENTILATOR.

Application filed February 23, 1924. Serial No. 694,684.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER CHUPA, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Livingston Manor, in the county of Sullivan and State of New York, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a ventilator for use in chicken houses, barns or other places where a ventilator is desired, and ha for its object to provide an efiicient ventilator of simple construction which may be built into a chicken house or the like, or which may be installed after the house is built.

In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 is.

a vertical section of the improved ventilator and Fig. 2 is a rear or inside view of the same.

Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes a roof of a building or of the ventilator and 13 rafters resting on the plate or top crosspiece 14. Two posts or uprights 15 rest on a sill 16, and extending from the said sill upward for a considerable distance is an outside partition 17 above which, and below the plate or top cross-piece 14;, is an air inlet 18. Attached at its upper edge to the plate or top cross-piece let and at its sides to the uprights 15, on the inside of the ventilator, is a screen 19 of muslin or other finely woven cloth, said screen extending from the plate or top cross-piece let downward for a considerable distance below the opening 18. Below the screen 19 and above said sill 16 is a wide air inlet opening 20. To the rafters 13, or other suitable supports, is attached a bafilc board 21 which depends below the plate or top cross-piece 14, between which latter and the roof 12 is a considerable space affording an air out-' let. The cloth screen 19 will preferably be secured to the inside of the plate or top cross-piece 14: and the uprights 15 by small cleats 22 secured to these parts, as by tacks or small nails 23.

The operation of the improved ventilator is as follows: Fresh air to be. supplied to the chicken house or other building with which the improved ventilator is associated enters at the opening 18 and is mainly directed downward between the partition 17 and the cloth screen 19 to the opening 20 where it enters the room of the chicken house or other building; although some of the entering air may pass through the cloth screen 19. The foul air from the building passes upward over the plate or top crosspiece 14, escaping through the space between rights 15 may represent the usual studding of a building or may be independent thereof, and the roof 12 and rafters it may be the usual parts of a building or may be independent thereof. In other words, the ventilator herein shown may be an independent structure, to be applied to buildings already constructed, or may be built into a chicken house or other building when such building is being constructed. Also it will be understood that the improved ventilator may be of any desired width, extending, if desired, the entire length of one side of a chicken house or other building to be ventilated. I

Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

A ventilator for chicken houses and the like, comprising a sill, uprights rising from said sill, a top cross-piece, an outside partition located above said sill but terminating some distance below said top cross-piece, thus affording an air inlet opening above said partition, a cloth screen attached to the inside of said top cross-piece and said uprights and extending downward a considerable distance. below the said air inlet opening but terminating some distance above the said sill, thus affording an inlet to permit the passage of entering air into the room of the building, a roof'betwecn which and said top cross-piece is an air outlet opening, and a depending baffle board in front of and serving as a protector to the said air outlet opening, said baflle board assisting in a proper ventilating circulation.
