Description

July 1 1924.
C. K. ARMSTRONG MOP Filed May 20, 1922 ALFIORNEY 30m WITNESa:
Patented duty 1, 19240 CLAUDE K. ABMSTRONG, OF. PRINCETON, WEST VIRGINIA.
MOP.
Application filed May 20, 1922.
T 0 all whom it concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE K, ARM- STRONG. a citizen of the United States, residing at Princeton, in the county of Mercer and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in mops, the general object of the invention being to so form the head of the mop that the mop forming material may be easily and quickly put in place and removed.
Another object of the invention is to provide spring means for connecting the head with the handle.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view.
The remaining figure is a detail view.
As is shown in these views the head 1 of the mop is composed of a plurality of blocks 2 which are held together by the two bolts 3. The inner blocks are provided with a longitudinally extending groove 4 upon each face and the end blocks are provided with a longitudinally extending groove upon the inner face, these grooves being so arranged that when the blocks are held together circular passages will be formed between each pair of blocks. The mop forming material 5 is looped over lengths of flexible material, such as rope, as shown at 6, and these Serial No. 562,382.
lengths are placed in the circular passages with the mop forming material passing between the blocks. Thus the mop is composed of a number of sections of mop forming material, each section being held between a pair of blocks. As soon as the material has become worn it may be removed and new material substituted so that it is a simple and easy matter to renew the material of the mop. The head is connected with the handle 7 by a spring 8 which forms a socket to receive the handle and this spring is connected with the head by having its ends connected with the bolts 3 at the rear end of the head and by the bolt 9 at the front of the head. The mop material may be formed of rags or any other suitable material which is wrapped around the pieces of rope.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A mop comprising a plurality of strips arranged in parallelism, the opposed sides of each strip being provided with an elongated groove forming a channel between each strip, mop strands distributed between each strip, a pair of coils intermeshed with each other and providing a handle socket, a handle for said socket, the free ends of said coils being formed into two pairs of divergent legs, said strips being arranged between said pairs of divergent legs, and means clamping the strips together and the said legs to the strips.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CLAUDE K. ARMSTRONG.
