IMPROVEMENT IN DENTAL REFLECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. accuses, dated February 16, 1875; application filed August 1, 1874.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. OSBORN, of Port Chester, in the county of \Nestehester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dental Reflector, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved reflector shown as applied to a dentaldam clamp. Fig. 2 is a detail side view of the reflector detached and enlarged, and part being broken away to show the construction.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish a reflector that may be applied to a dental clamp or other suitable support, to show the cavity of the tooth distinctly, so that the dentist can see just what is to be done, and also watch the progress of the work.
The invention consists in the disk provided with a reflecting-surface upon its front side, and a ball-stem upon its rear side, and the arm provided with a spherical socket upon one end, and spring-clamps upon its other end, in combination with each other, as hereinafter described.
A is a small circular disk, having a reflector formed upon or attached to its forward side. I prefer to make the reflecting-surface concave, so that it may show the cavity enlarged. Upon the rear side of the disk A is formed a ball-stem, a, the ball of which fits into a spherical socket, b formed upon the upper end of the arm B, thus forming a ball-andsocket joint, and enabling the reflector to be readily adjusted in any desired position. The arm B is curved, and upon its other end is formed, or to it is attached, a spring-clamp, N, which may be slipped upon a dental-dam clamp, C, or other support, to hold the reflector when in use.
The clamps b may be kept from slipping upon the dam clainp O by a piece of thin rubber tube, D, slipped upon the said clamp O, to serve as a packing for the clamps W.
The dental-da1n clamp G is a well-known device, and about its construction there is nothing new.
Having" thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The disk A, provided with a reflecting-surface upon its front side, and a ball-stem, a, upon its rear side, and the arm B, provided with a spherical socket, 1), upon one end, and spring-clamps b upon its other end, in combination with each other, substantially as herein shown and described, to adapt them for use, as set forth.
FRANCIS M. OSBORN. Witnesses:
