Description

J. F. BRUCKNER ADJUSTABLE BRACKET Filed Jan. 25. 1926 INVENTOR JnFB/uc/fner ATT RNEYS Patented Aug. 3l, 1912'.
JOHN FIR-MR LBROKNER, OF UNON CITY, NEW JERSEY.
ADJUSTABLE BRACKET.
Application led January 25, 1526.
rlhis invention relates to brackets 'for supporting shade rollers and like structures.
lVhen it is necessary or desirable to change lor renew window shades, it often happens that the shade rollers available do not fit the brackets either because the brackets are too close together or too ar apart. lVith the usual bracket construction, this necessitates changing the length ol" the roller or taking down and respacing the brackets, both of which procedures require time and are bothersome.
This invention has tor itssalient object to provide an adjustable bracket ot the charac ter described that is simple and practical in construction and can be economically manufactured.
Further objects ot the invention will appear 'lrom the following speciiication taken in connection with the drawings, which Ytorni a part ot this application, and in which- Fig. 1 is a front elevation o't a bracket constructed in accordance with the invention;
l? 2 is an edge view ot the structure shown in Fig. 1;
liig. 3 is a sectional elevation o't the structure shown in Fig. 1; and
Fig. -fl is a Sectional elevation similar to Fig. 8 but showing the bracket for receiving the flat Iend ot the shade roller spindle or shaft.
rThe invention briefly described consists ot a bracket structure comprising a base in which is slidably mounted a bracket comj'iriaing a pair ot' shanks rcsiliently torced apart and having formed on or secured to their outer ends a bearing portion i'or supw porting the shade roller. The bracket is constructed ot resilient material and is so formed that the shanks are resiliently pressed apart and one ot the shanks has a lip `formed thereon adapted to coact with notches or serrations in the base to hold the bracket in adjusted position. Further details o't the invention will appear from the following description.
ln the torni of the invention illustrated, the base comprises a back plate 10, a cen trai plate 11 having an elongated slot 12 formed therein and a 'front plate 13 also having an elongated slot lil therein, the slot 1t being narrower in width than the slot 12. One edge, preferably the lower edge of the slot 1li is serrated or provided with a plurality of notches 15.
Serial. No. 83,474.
The bracket as a pair of Shanks 20 and 21 connected at their ends by a bearing or snpu porting portion 22. ln the structure shown in Fig. 3, the portion 22 is adapted t0 sup port the round end ot the shade roller spinvdle and in the structure shown in Fig. 4, the
bearing portion is formed with substantially-tlat sides 24tand 25 adapted to coact'with the flat end oit the shade roller spindle to prevent the spindle from rotating as the shade roller is rotated.
ln both forms ot' the invention shown, namely in Figs. 3 and 4.-, the bracket is 'formed ot a single'piece of material and the tree ends of the shanks are bent laterally to torni flanges 30 and 31. rlhese flanges are positioned between the front plate 13 and the back plate on the base as shown in Figs. 3 and l.
One ot the Shanks, such as the shank 21, is provided with a downwardly extending lip 33 which is adapted to coact with the notches and retain the bracket in adjusted position.
lt will be obvious from the above description that the bracket can be adjusted to any desired position on the base by pinching together the shanks and 21, thereby releasing the lip 33 from the notches 15. Villien the shanks are released, the lip will spring into one ot' the notches holding the bracket in adjusted position.
Although certain specific embodiments or" the invention have been particularly shown and described, it will be understood that the invention is apable oi inodiiication and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope ot the invention, as expressed in the following claims.
vWhat I claim is g 1. An adjustable bracket construction for shade rollers comprising a flat base having a longitudinally recessed element therein, a longitudinal slot opening into said recess, one edge ot the slot having a plurality o'l notches therein, and a bracket comprising aV bearing portion, resilient shanks connected to the bearing portionand having offset ends slidably positioned in said recess, said shanks being resiliently pressed apart vertically, the lower shank having a lip engageable with said notches.
2. An adjustable bracket construction for shade rollers comprising a flat base having a longitudinally recessed element therein, a longitudinal slot opening into said recess, one edge of the slot having a plurality of notches thcreiina bracket formed of a single strip of resilient material and comprising a bearing portion at one end of the bracket, and a par of Shanks resiliently pressed apart vertically and havingl flanges at the free ends thereof slidahly positioned in the recess, one of the Shanks having a lip adapt- 10 ed to engage said notches and retain the bracket in adjustable position.
ln Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 2l day of Jan., 1926.
JOHN FRANK BRUCKNER.
