IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,825, dated February 16, 1875 application filed February 2, 1675.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SIGMUND JAOOBY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and Improved Cigar- Box, of which the following is a specification:
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 represents an inverted plan. 2 is a transverse section.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in a metallic cigarbox, provided on its bottom, or one of its sides, with a hole, against the inside of which is placed a branding-surface, composed of a piece of wood, or other suitable material, and confined in its position by the sides of the box and by its contents, in such a manner that when the box is filled, the brand required by the law can be applied to the branding-surface through the hole in the metallic side of the box.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a cigar-box, which is made of sheet metal, and provided with a hinged cover, B. In the bottom of this box is a hole, a, which may be round, or of any other desirable form or shape, and which is covered on the inside by a branding-surface, O, composed of wood, or any other suitable material, and cut out to fit the interior of the box. made in one of the sides, or in the top, the position of the branding-surface being changed accordingly.
When the box is filled and closed, said branding-surface is retained in position by the contents of the box, as well as by the sides of the same, and the brand required by the revenue law can be readily applied to the said branding-surface through the hole a, and after the brand has been applied it remains in view, the branding-surface being unable to move in either direction.
By these means a cigar-box is obtained which is made entirely of sheet metal, and permits the manufacturer to comply with the requirements of the law without difficulty.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cigar-box made entirely of metal, and provided with a hole, a, against the inside of which is placed a branding-surface, O, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
