Description

NITED STA'I'ES PATEN'I' OFFICE.
CHRISTOPHER C. PARKER AND JOHN KIVETT, OF SULLIVAN, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT |N AXLE'LUBRICATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,607, dated February 9, 1875; application filed July 6, 1874.
' To all 'whom it may conce'n:
Be it known that wc, GHRISTOPHER O. PARKER and JOHN KIVE'rcL', of Sullivan, in Sullivan county and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvenient in Axle-Lubricators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a'perspective view of our lubricator, the cap or cover being elevated, and a portion of the shell or case thereof broken away. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal Vertical section of the same.
Corresponding parts in the two figures are designated by like letters.
This invention rclates to a certain improvement in axle-lubricators; and it consists of a shell or case having a seat or discharge-tube filled by a valve, the stem of which extends up through a disk, against the lower side of which presses a spring attached to said stem, and of a spring lodged in the cap or cover of the case, and which presses against the said stem when the cap is closed, and thus assists in retainin g the valve in its seat, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawin g, A refersto the shell t or case of our lubricator, suitabl y thr'eaded to enable it to be retained in place wn en inserted 'in the hub of the wheel, and having` a disreturning the valve to its seat after discharging a portion of the lubricant upon the aXle. This spring also acts to retain the valve in its seat. E is a second spring lodged in the cap F of the case or shell A, and which presses' against the upper end of the Valve-stem, to assist in retaining the Valve in its seat. A spring-catch, e, holds the cap or cover F down upon the case when the lubricator is not in use.
Raise the lid or cap F, and withdraw the Valve B from its seat by pulling upwardly upon its stem, compressing the spring I), and the oil or lubricant will pass out through the tube or seat a, and lubricate the axle.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The case A, having the discllarge-tube a filled by the Valve B, the stem of which eX- tends up through the disk O, against the lower side of which bears a spring, D, attached to the said stem, all combined substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The spring E, lodged iu the cover F of the case A, and pressing against the valvestem, for assisting in retaining the valve B in its seat, all combined substautially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto signed our names in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OHRISTUPHER O. PARKER. JOHN KIVETT. Witnesses:
U. OoULsoN, J. O. HIGBEE.
