l In analternative embodiment of the invention, suitable for application to a locomotive boiler, instead of the tubes 5, 5a with end flange connections 6, 6a and t-o which tubes the 'saturated steam inlet and outlet upper endisofsaidtubes 5, 5a to a flange ory end portions 4C, lfof the severalsuperheater elements are secured being arranged transversely or horizontally as hereinbefore de-V scribed andshown in the drawings, the said tubes 5, v5a may be arranged vertically, and the uppermosttube's 5, 5a appe-rtaining to the several elements in arow or rows 1t may be Y a vertical row or rows) of the boiler smoke tubes may be secured by the flange on the flanges on' the main header which in this l es case. may tbe arranged horizontally in the 1 upper part of the :smoke box above the group of boiler smoke tubes into which the super-n heater elements extend.
Although in the drawings, Fig. l, an arrangement of the 'superheater elements is shown in which each elementhas a number of JU-loops extendingfinto a corresponding number of smoke 'tubes in twoa-djacent rows of smoke tubes, the invention f is not restricted to this arrangement as elements whichhave a number' o-U-loops extending into the smoke tubes in-'onlyv one row of smoke tubes might be employed. Q The faces of the hereinbefore mentioned ianges or plates 6 and 6a on the'transverse tubular members onor Vconnected with the saturated steam inlet and superheatedsteam outlet ends of the superheater elements may be machined true so as Vto provide effective steam tight jointingcf theradjacent fianges 6 and 6a appertaining to the adjacent elements; if desired, however, a suitable jointmaking material might be provided between the adjacent faces of thesaid flanges 6 and 6a. Similar. provision wouldk of` course be made for the jointing of the flanges 6 of the elements situated nearest the main header 3 to theflanges 8 on kthe short Vprojecting tubes 9 and 9a on the-header. f
