' l This invention relates to the manufacturel of lspoons and similar table utensils from tin plate orother sheet metal stock, and has for its object the production cfan inexpensive article of the character referred to, solely by thel blanking out and die forming process,
and'rigidity to perform its intended function in a 'satisfactory manner, and which ,will have no sharp edges to cause injury to the mouth `or hands of the user.
The foregoing andyother objects `of the in- Y vention willv best be understood from the following description of one embodimentl thereof and the method of producing the same, as
illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
It will be understood, however, that the par' ticularl construction, operations, appliances, and material described yandshown have been chosen for illustrative purposes merely, and that the invention, as defined by the claims hereunto appended, may be yotherwise embodied and practised without departure from the spirit and scope thereof.

This is'prel'erably accomplished by so ytorniing ythe dies 27 and 28 as to turn said edges outwardly, vas shown in Fig. ,to form vlongitudinally extending, substantially coplanar lands or stitlening langes (see also Figs. ll and l2) ,o at the lsides of the handle .3l and connecting with' the bowl 30. By the formation of these lands on lthe Yhandle of the spoon, the 4burrs on the saidhanvdle are, duringthe 'forming operation, dis- ,osed in and under the corres Ondine flat i l b `opposed faces of the forming dies, and are therefore crushed or dulled by the vfinal action ot' the dies. v
The,resultingspoon may therefore be produced by a simple process from inexpensive material but is nevertheless lentirely Yfree 'from sharp edges Which might tend to injure either the mouth or the ,hands of the user, the design being such thatthe sharp rburrs along the edges of the handle, which result troni the manipulation oit the blank necessary to avoid such burrs at the upper edgesvot the bowl, are effectively eliminated by the tormingdies during the forming ,op-
