PATENT OFFICE. I
ERTON, T. FOLTS, OF CRESWELL, OREGON.
DISPLAY 'lR AY FOR BAR OR PACKAGE CONFECTIONS.
Application filed June 16, 1925. Serial No. 37,484.
My present invention relates to my pending application Serial Number 27,775,filed May 4:, 1925, in Division 8, for an improvement in a display tray, and to my invention of an improvement in a chocolate confection display tray, filed herewith. In my present invention the same is especially adapted for use in the displaying of package goods, bar confections, and the like wherein it is desirable to display the same in individual packages in an attractive manner and so that the same may be easily accessible and dispensed with the least amount of trouble and delay.
In my present application, the invention consists primarily of a tray having disposed upon one end of the same an inclined surface, adapted to the retention of the package goods, confections and the like to be displayed and the inclined surface having an additional area, which may be used for advertising matter, as the same relates to the. goods being merchandised, because of my device being made at one central point and thesame being distributed over a wide area, it is desirable that the same be so made, that the devices may be nested for shipment to distant points and occupy a minimum of space.
With these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination of ports, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims and to a preferred form of embodiment ofwhich is hereinafter shown with reference to the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view of oneof my devices with a unit of confection being displayed upon the same.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the device shown Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the device taken on line 33 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary, cross sectional view, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2, of the device made to illustrate a means of reinforcing the outer edge of a part of the tray and the inclined wall structure to facilitate nesting.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation and especially made to illustrate the display surface in either one of three positions.
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
1 is the body of the display tray, being openended on its one end and having sloping side walls 2, and a substantially vertical end wall 3, terminating in an inclined display surface 4, which may be made in any suitable shape to display the specific articles to be merchandised. A preferred embodiment of my invention contemplates that the inclined surface will be substantially larger 1 than the package confections being dis- The package being displaved is shown at 5, which may be held in position by lugs 6. these lugs, at the time of manufacture of the article, may be sheared through on all but the bottom edge and the samemay be bent to form, at the time the article is placed in the tray, the same being delivered as shown at 7 in Fig. 5, and if the same is to be made as illustrated in Fig. 3,'the supporting lugs 6, are bent outward and the articles to be merchandised are placed within the tray and behind, or beneath the inclined surface; this position isshownin the dotted lines in Fig. 5 at 8, whereas if the articles are to be put in advance and toward the customer, as in dotted position at 9, in Fig. 5, the supporting lugs'6, will be bent through on the opposite side. To reinforce the outer surfaces of the tray, a reinforcing member 10 is placed about the outer edges and around which a rolled edge 11, is
played, in order that descriptive or advertising matter, as the same may be applied in any number of ways.
formed the same crossing transversely of the tray, as shown at 12, and against which the inclined surface 4, maybe made to con tact in intimate relationship therewith, if the inclined surface is bent as shown in Fig. 2. Foot pads 12, may be placed on the bottom of the same to afford frictional resistance and at the same time to prevent a marring of the supporting surface.
-VVhile the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the obiects primarily stated, it is to be understoo that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form of em bodiment herein shown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms, all coming Within the scope of the claims which follow.
Vhat I claim is 1. A display tray for package confection, comprising an open ended body portion, having outwardly inclined, reinforced side walls and a substantially vertical end Wall extending to a height substantially above the side Walls and terminating in an inclined surface substantially larger than that of the package to be displayed and means disposed upon the inclined surface adapted to maintain the package to be displayed thereupon.
2. A display tray for package confection, comprising an open ended body portion,
having side walls having a reinforcing rim as of wire formed upon the upper edge of the same, an end member formed into a vertical end wall the edges of the vertical portion being reinforced by the reinforcing Wire, and the end portion terminating in an inclined surface of substantially greater area than that of the package to be displayed i'or descriptive or advertising display, and supporting lugs adapted to being projected from either side of the inclined surlt'ace and adapted to maintain the package to be displayed thereupon in fixed position and foot pads at either corner of the bottom 01 the body display tray.
