Description

May 25, 1926: 1,585,903 F. J. M INTYRE TOOL Filed Feb. 4. 1925 INVENTOI] f ,4 TTORNEY Patented May 25, 1926.
UNITED STATES FRANK J. MCINTYRE, 0F HARTFORD, CONNECTIdUT.
TOOL.
Application filed February 4, 1925. Serial m. 6,775.
This invention relates to a tool and among the objects of the invention are the provision of an article of the character set forth which possesses the functions of several natural working implements. In the drawing accompanying and forming part of the present specification. I have shown in detail a form of embodiment of the invention which, to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same, will be set forth fully in the following description. I am not restricted to "the disclosure. I. may depart therefrom in several respects within the scope of the invention defined by the claim following such description.
Referring to said drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation in slight isometric perspective of a form of the device.
Fig. 2 is a similar view on a slightly larger scale of the article and with the jaws. adjusted.
Fig.3 is a like view as seen from the opposite side of the implement.
Fig. 4 is a practically similar view of one of the levers.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a shaft.
Like characters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
'In Figs. 1, 2, 3 and +1 of the drawings, the device involves in its make-up two levers, as 2 and 3, crossed and pivoted together near their upper ends. As shown, the lever 3 has in its upper end thesquared hole 4 to receive the straight portion of the pivot 5 in view of which circumstance the pivot can not turn in the hole. The pivot is securely held in proper relation by a nut, as 6, threaded onto the extension 7 of the pivot pin 5, as shown clearly in Fig. 3. The jaw member 8 of the lever 2 has at its upper end the three holes, as 9. 10 and 11, to interchangeably-receive the round portion 12 of the pivot 5 so that the pivot portion 12 can interchangeably fit the openings 11. 10 and 9. In Fig. 1 it is shown as fitted in the opening 11 whereas in Fig, 2 it is fitted in the extreme opening 9. It can be shifted to occupy any one of the intersecting openings 9, 10 and 11. The jaw member 8 is comple' mental to the jaw member 12 which is at the upper end of the lever 3 as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 4 and is complemental to the jaw member 8. The lever 2 at its lowerv end has a screw driver portion 13 to facilitate turning off screws and perform other like functions. The jaw member 8 has at its forward end an angular extension 14, which. when the levers are closed, is opposite the abrupt face 15 at the end of the jaw member 12. i
The jaw member 12 has on it a notch as 16 which, when the jaw member 12 is closed, is opposite a notch 17 on the jaw member 8. At opposite sides of the notch 16 the jaw member 12 is serrated, as at 19. At the junction of the angular extension 14 with the head member 8 there is formed an arcuate pocket 19, the bottom of which may be serrated, as at 20.
The lever member 2, as shown, may have formedin it the dies, as 21, 22 and 23, which form threads on a bolt or the like.
hat I claim is:
An implement of the class described comprising two crossed levers one of the levers having several intersecting slots and the other lever having a square slot and a pivot extending therethrough to selectively engage any one of the several connected slots. the pivot having a. square portion extending through the square slot and a threaded ,por-.
tion, extending beyond the said square slot. and furnished with a nut in threaded engagement with said threaded portion, each of the levers having an angularly extending jaw, the said ja ws being oppositely opposed to each other, the outer one of said jaws having an angular extension overlying the end of the inner jaw and having an arcuate recess at the extension.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK J. McINTYRE.
