4UNrlr-ID silutrras PATENT OFFICE.
RALPH LOUIS SCHROEDEB, 0F OWENSBOBO, KENTUCKY.
Application filed. March 7, 1925. Serial No. 13,789.
This invention relates generally to life saving .belts land aims to improve'upon'a ystruc'zture'such as is shown in my pending in the water.l l
With' the foregoing and numerous other objects in View as will appear as the description proceeds, the inventionA residesV in certain novel features ofconstruction, and in lili the combination and arrangement of arts as will be hereinafter more fully descri led and claimed. F ln the drawing- I Figurel 1- ijsa fragmentary elevation of a lite saving belt with my improved structure mounted thereon.
Fig.; 2 is an elevation'of the container and.
v lhg. .3 i's al 'longitudinal section therethrough.. l Y
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that 1 designates a lite preserver of the inatable type which may be constructed as shown in my above identified co-pending application, or of anyfother 4suitable structure.
- j "lihis'indatable member 1 is normally deflated and has extending therefrom a flexible in llating tube2 which also-may be of any de sired structure. 'A pair of flaps 3 are sewed onto the member -1 and have apertures tor receiving lacing i so that a container 5 may be mounted, therein.V Any other. suitable means may be used tor mounting this coni tainer.
My invention lies particularly in thecontainer 5 and the elements about to be described. rllhis container 5 is provided with a milled surface 6 oran otherwise roughened portionon 'itsv exterior surface so as to be eld against slippin in the 'path3. The container 6- isprovi ed with an internally vided in the bottle.
. tion thereof.
\\ber threaded in t threaded open end 7 and is adapted to receive a bottle 8 containing highly compressed airr' A closure 9 of suitable structure lis pro- A rubber gasket 10 is disposed about the endet the bottle 8 and is held inplace by a bushing 11 rotatably engaged in a sleeve 12. This sleeve 12 is both externally and internally' threaded so. that it may be engaged in the threaded end 7 of the container 5. A member 13 is threaded into the sleeve-12 and is provided with a longitudinally extending bore 14. terminating'at its outer end in a valve seat for receiving a check' valve 15' which is held in place by a spring 16. p
.. A cutter'l? is provided on the inner end of the member 13 and has a bore extending therethrough 'coincident with the bore 14;.
.The tube 2 is engaged with the vouter .end
ol the member A13.
By threading the member 13 into the sleeve 12 the piercing of the cutters 17 may be brought into engagement with the clo- .sure 9 of the bottle 8 for cutting a hole therein. A`When a hole is cut into the closure 9,
the liquid air is tree to expandv and will rush 'through the bore llhand through the tube 2 for indating the member 1 without any further e'ort on the part oit the person wearingthe life preserver.
inasmuch as'the construction and operation ot the invention will now be clearly understood w-ithout'a more detailed descriplit is desired, however, to point out that numerous changes in the details of construction, in the materials, and in the combination and arrangement of parts maybe eparting from the spirity resorted to without or scope of the inveniton as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
'Having thusy described my invention, what l claim as new is 1.y As a new article of manufacture, a tilling device for the tubes ot lite preservers and the like including a container in the4 container for holdin .highl com'- pressed air, a sleeve threade into t e container tor holding the .bottle therein, a meme'sleeve and provided with a longitudinally extending bore, a cutter extending `from the inner endof the member and provided with abore coincident with the tirstmentioned bore whereby the member eoY a bottle lil@ may be threaded into the container lfor en-v gaging the cutter'with the bottle so as to pierce the same.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a filling device for the tubes of life preservers and the like including a container, a bottle in the container for holding highly compressed air, a sleeve threaded into the container for holding the bottle therein, a member threaded in the sleeve and provided .with a longitudinally extending bore, a cutter extending from the inner end of the memher and provided With a bore coincident with -the first mentioned bore whereby the. member may be threaded int-o the container for engaging. the cutter With the bottle so as to pierce the same, and a check valve in the -memher for allowing the flow of the air from the bottle but prevent-ing the flow thereof to-v ward the bottle.
In testimony whereof I ahx my signnture.
RALPH LOUIS SCHROEDER.'
