The initial downward movement ot the cani 85 is therefore resisted only by le uppermost weight 48 but as it coninues to rise it successively picks up the `ther weights in order. Thus the chute 26 pproaches the horizontal step-by-step unil arm S3 reaches the central or vertical iosition, after which the reversal ot position ot chute 26 and the scale beam 6 is rapidly accomplished. Preferably the cam ytace is cut aif'ay at 60 to permit the unopposed movement ot the arm 38 through the centre-.l portion ot its arc.

As the full pan descends the door is tripped and opened as heretofore t cscribed, permitting` the contents to escape. As the other pan7 l0, rises the door l5 thereof swings by gravity until the latch bar catches and holds it iu closed position. is the chute 2G is now inclined downwardly toward the lett the tillii ot the pan 'l0 talles place in the saine manner as has alreazly been described iu connection with pan ill, and when pan l0 is filled the positions ot the parts of the inachine are reversed in a manner Wnich will he readily understood.
As heretofore observed chute 26 turned toward the horizontal as the filling of a pan approaches completion and as it approaches the horizontal the llow of the inaterial slowly Vdiminished until just prior iS to the completion oit' such a load as will shift ,meneer the scale beani and the lpans carried thereby, the stream dvvindles to a nier-e trickle.
By the operation of the scale substantially equal amounts ot the chips or other divided matter are alternately dumped by the respective pens and inay beocerried away in any suitable conveyor provided for the purpose, or they inay be permitted tov ac niulae in suitsble receptacle. By counting the reversals oi" the benin and multiplying the result bythe Weight constituting u le load, the total Weig" t` or" -inaterial passing through the apparat 'lhe reversals nia-y 01 course be counted by an observer. lt is preferable however to record thein on an automatic counter such as are in connnon use. it 82 l l have indicated a counter so located as to be actuated by the moveinent of the reversing chute 26.
