J. E3. \IICZC) DIAL FOR THE TRANSFER IMPLEMENTS IN MACHINES FOR KNITTING WELTED AND OTHER FABRICS 'Filed May 12, 1925 Patented Apr. 20, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEAN BAPTISTE 'VIGO, OF COLOMBES, FRANCE.
DIAL FOR THE TRANSFER IMPLEMENTS IN MACHINES FOR KNITTING WELT ED AND OTHER FABRICS.
2 Application filed May 1'2, 1925. Serial No. 29,761.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN BAr'ris'rn V100, citizen of the French Republic, residing at Colombes, Department of Seine, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dials for the Transfer 1m.- plements in Machines for Knitting lVelted and Other Fabrics, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has for its object an improvement in the construction of the dials provided with transfer implements, intended for the production of double inturns or welts of stockings and for the longitudinal mock seam of stockings. These dials are usually made of a single piece, comprising a central part, provided with narrow radial slots in which are guided the tails of the dial ii'nplements, and a peripheral part, provided with vertical radial fins consisting of thin plates fitted and secured, usually by soldering, in radial grooves of said peripheral part; between which radial peripheral fins of the dial. slide the spaced outer portions of the dial implements.
This method of manufacture results in weakening the periphery of the dial, which is liable to give way and to produce, on the lower face of the dial, projections upon which the yarn may be caught, thus causing defects in the fabric and in the longitudinal mock-seam of the stocking and also,
in many cases, breakage of the cylinder needles.
According to my invention, the dial is made of two disc members, adapted to fit into one another and the outer of the said disc members is provided, at its periphery, with radial vertical fins, integral with the member. The inner disc member, accurately fitted in the. outer one, and secured to the same, is provided with radial grooves designed to guide the tails of the dial implements.
This new method of manufacture allows of obtaining dials of very great strength, adapted to be made entirely by machinework and always remaining free, upon their lower face, from any projections liable to catch the yarn of the knitted web so that the lower face of the peripheral part of the dial always remains perfectly that, in case of injury, which is, not likely,
smootln Moreover, 1t 1s a considerable advantage of one of the disc members of which the dial is composed, the damaged disc member can be readily changed without requiring the replacen'ient of the other disc member.
My invention is hereinafter fully described, reference being had to the annexed drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a part of the inner member of the dial.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a part of the outer member of the dial.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a part of the dial, with the outer and inner members thereof fitted together.
Fig. 4,- is a vertical axial section of a part of the dial, with the outer and inner members thereof fitted together.
As shown, the dial consists of two disc members fitting into one another, the larger disc having no recess or notch upon its lower face; and these discs consist of the following: I
1. An outer disc 6, having, at its periphery, grooves 6 which are sufiiciently wide to allow the spaced outer portions 0 of the dial implements a to slide therein. These grooves a leave between them thin walls or fine 0 which form an integral part of the disc 0, which is therefore in no way weakened but remains rigid and free from distort-ion;
2. A central or inner disc f, fitting accurately into the first disc and providedwith radial grooves 7 designed to guide the tail of the dial implements 0.
These two discs 6 and f are secured together by any suitable means, preferably by rivets e engaged in registering holes in the disc members (Figs. 3 and 4t).
hat I claim is A A dial for transfer implements for knitting machines for knittmg welted and other fabrics, the dial con'iprising, two separate disc members fittable one into the other, there being an outer and an inner one, integral radial vertical fins projecting from the upper face and at the periphery of the outer disc member, radial grooves provided in the upper face of the inner disc member, and means for securing the disc members together, for the purpose described. I
In testimony whereof I have signedmy name to this specification.
J EAN BAPTISTE VICO.
