DOLL.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, KAREN MARGRETHE BUoHTRUr, subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Randers, Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dolls, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to a doll in the form of a human being or an animal the outer part or limitations of the body and limbs of which consist in an envelopment made from cloth, leather or any other suitable material and in which is provided a permanent opening through which the child or children playing with the doll may themselves fill said envelopment with sand or the like, and may empty it again and so on. In view of the fact that the doll may be made of leather or any other suitable material, a stiffened or strengthened opening is thus formed for the closure member.

In this manner a doll is produced which may, after having been totally or partly filled with a suitable material, such as sand, be placed in almost any conceivable position, and the body and the limbs may to a certain extent be formed at will. A doll as here described can, consequently, be accom modated in accordance with the fancy of the child in a far better manner than can a,

common doll having joints, the playing with the doll according to this invention at the same time being combined with or agreeing with the childrens inclination to play with sand. This latter material is the one es pecially adapted as a filling material for the purpose, but it is obvious that any other suitable material, such as sawdust, may be employed.

The opening through which the filling material is filled into and emptied from the envelopment may be arranged at various places in the latter. For instance, it may be arranged in the head of the doll and may be closed by means of a detachable lid forming hat or wig.

The accompanying drawing shows a diagrammatic view of a doll, showing the hat or closure member in section.

Referring now to the drawing, 7 indicates a body portion of a doll in the form of a human being having legs 6 and arms 5. The

head 3 is arranged on the shoulders 4 and is preferably stiffened or strengthened in any suitable manner in order to provide a positive holding means 1 for the hat or closure 2. The body portion, arms, legs and head are hollow and therefore any sand inserted through the opening in the head will either totally or partly fill the doll as desired. This doll is preferably made of cloth but can be made of any suitable material and if it is made of leather the head 3 need not be strengthened since the leather will offer enough frictional resistance to hold the closure 2 in place. The doll can be totally or only partly filled with sand as it is not stuffed and it will be see-n that the doll is made so that the legs and arms communicate with the body which in turn is in communication with the head.

As the filled doll may be brought to assume practically all positions and may be formed at will to a certain extent the playing with such a doll will undoubtedly give the children more pleasure than will a common doll, and it will cause them to be engrossed with arranging many characteristic positions.

I claim as my invention:

1. A doll comprising a body portion; a pair of legs secured to and in communication with said body portion; a pair of arms secured to and in communication with said body portion; a head secured to and in communication with said body portion and having an opening therein around which a holding portion is provided, said body portion, legs and arms being hollow and constructed of fabric; and a removable closure for the doll adapted to be inserted in said opening and held in place by said holding portion, said body portion, arms and legs being adapted to be totally or partially filled with sand in order that said doll may assume any desired position.

2. A toy comprising a flexible container in the form of a doll provided with a head, an opening through which a mobile granular filler may be put into the container, a hat adapted to fit the head and provided with means to close the opening in the container when the cap is in position on the head.
